Hanoi Universities also revoked the Bachelor of Foreign Languages degree in English from the distance learning program granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet; the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi also took further action. According to some National Assembly deputies, this action plan is correct according to the law, however, timely correction is needed to ensure integrity in education, especially in training and granting degrees.
Discussing this issue, according to delegate Pham Van Hoa of Dong Thap delegation, studying is a legitimate need of citizens, however, it must ensure real learning and real degrees. Through the recent incident, this issue must be raised even more.
“Although the degree is real but it is a fake, that is unacceptable. Improving qualifications to serve the country and the people is necessary, however, the quality of that degree, that academic title must be true to its nature and ability. In the past, there were cases where the degree was real but the student was a fake, that is unacceptable. From now on, it must be a real degree, real learning, real learning, real degree is the right thing to do” - said delegate Pham Van Hoa.
Delegate Tran Thi Thu Phuoc, Kon Tum delegation, said that everyone appreciates people with qualifications, but that must be real qualifications to serve society and the country. Fraudulent degrees are condemned by the whole society. To avoid this situation from happening again, it is necessary to tighten the granting of degrees, and there needs to be regular and responsible involvement of the authorities.
“It is also necessary to tighten this, from the input to the output of degrees and certificates, for competent agencies, input checks and licensing for centers with the function of granting degrees and other certificates, I think we should tighten it. I really hope that competent agencies, especially the Ministry of Education, and related ministries must have stronger measures, must be standardized, university, master, doctorate in the coming time” - Delegate Tran Thi Thu Phuoc expressed her opinion.
According to information from delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga, Hai Duong delegation, there is currently a bustling situation of selling fake certificates and degrees on social networks, showing the need to buy fake degrees. Although individuals equip themselves with fake degrees in their application for admission to a higher level of education, but not detecting this situation is the responsibility of the training institution that has not strictly implemented the existing legal regulations, especially the review, inspection and comparison of documents.
Delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga said that in order to prevent this situation from happening, it is necessary to assign specific responsibilities and have sanctions: “Our legal framework is quite complete, the only problem is how to organize and implement it seriously. The responsibility of training institutions here must be mentioned frankly, training institutions must be responsible. The step of checking and reviewing records is a step that every training institution must do. The most important thing is not only that we expose violations but also that someone must be responsible for those violations. There must be specific sanctions, not that we just discover, condemn, revoke degrees and that's it."
In the current period when the demand for high-quality labor is increasing in all fields from production practice to research and teaching, more than ever, ensuring integrity in education must be emphasized, so that education can truly provide quality resources for sustainable development.
