How do you evaluate Vietnam's efforts in green transition?
- The efforts and commitments of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at COP26 are truly wonderful. Vietnam strives to achieve Net Zero by 2050. European companies are excited to support Vietnam to achieve this goal, including Net Zero, green buildings, green credits, green bonds... To achieve green buildings in Vietnam, I see the potential and opportunities for European companies to support in many areas and we are actually implementing many projects.
It can be said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's commitment marks an important milestone. We are ready to share our knowledge, experience and capacity to promote sustainable development in Vietnam.
How do you assess the importance of building green factories in Vietnam?
- Sustainable and green development will help Vietnam attract more international direct capital (FDI). Moreover, the application of new green technologies is fundamentally a core factor for Vietnam to have more capital for sustainable development.
In the field of sustainable construction, what should Vietnam do to achieve the Net Zero target by 2050, sir?
- In green building design, the biggest priority is that we try to reduce energy use. Only when we reduce demand can we move towards sustainable energy use. If Vietnam follows the high standards of the EU, Vietnam will become an extremely attractive destination for European companies.
How to promote green and sustainable energy transition?
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Institute of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade - said that the most important factor is changing behavior and using energy efficiently.
To achieve the goal of energy transition and net zero emissions by 2050, changes in energy use behavior are needed. Fundamental changes in use behavior have a great effect on energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. Typical behavioral change solutions include: adjusting air conditioning temperature appropriately, reducing excessive hot water use, using public transport instead of private cars, increasing the life of construction works, maximizing natural light, reducing the consumption of fired materials in construction works, converting air transport to high-speed trains, etc.
In addition to changing energy use behavior, many energy efficiency solutions in buildings, vehicles, civil and industrial equipment are available today and can be scaled up very quickly. Energy saving brings dual benefits of reducing energy costs and reducing investment in energy supply infrastructure. Therefore, energy efficiency solutions need to be strongly promoted through legal corridors, incentive mechanisms, and energy markets.
