The United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on October 13 demanded an explanation from the Israeli army for “shocking violations” against the force, including a deliberate incursion into one of its positions.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni and expressed regret over the “harm to UNIFIL personnel” in Lebanon.
According to Mr. Netanyahu, "Israel will make every effort to prevent UNIFIL casualties and do everything possible to win the conflict."
In addition, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also warned on October 13 that any attack on peacekeeping forces "could constitute a war crime".
The statement came after Israeli tanks stormed the gates of a peacekeeping base of the agency in southern Lebanon.
“UNIFIL peacekeepers remain in place and the UN flag continues to fly,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said. He also reiterated Guterres’s request that Israel never target UNIFIL personnel or facilities.
"Attacks targeting peacekeepers violate international law, including international humanitarian law. They may constitute war crimes," Mr. Dujarric stressed.
This is the latest warning in response to Israeli attacks and acts of violence against UN peacekeepers in Lebanon in recent days.
In addition, Egypt also strongly condemned Israel's action to confiscate land belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jerusalem, turning it into an illegal Jewish settlement.
Cairo sees this as part of a larger campaign to undermine UNRWA and deny Palestinian rights. In response to this violation of international and humanitarian law, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry called on the UN Security Council to intervene and the international community to support UNRWA.
Egypt also stressed the responsibility of UN member states to prevent this action, as well as to protect international organizations and ensure global security.
Israel’s targeting of UNRWA comes amid a dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, with more than 223 UNRWA staff killed and two-thirds of its facilities damaged or destroyed.
Israel even lobbied the international community to close UNRWA and pass bills restricting its operations.
Currently, 2.3 million Gazans are at risk of hunger due to Israel's blockade and supply restrictions.
