During this holiday, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Trang's family of 10 members in Bac Kan province decided to go on a tour across Vietnam, stopping in Quang Tri for a day to visit historical sites and monuments such as the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Monument, the National Martyrs' Cemetery of Road 9, Truong Son and the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Monument.

Attending the “Unification of the Country” Flag Raising Ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South, the reunification of the country and the 53rd anniversary of the liberation of Quang Tri province on May 1 (1972-2025), Ms. Trang emotionally shared: “This is a special memory for my family when witnessing the solemn flag raising ceremony held on the country’s most important holiday. Standing on Hien Luong bridge, solemnly saluting the flag, listening to the national anthem and the red flag with a yellow star fluttering in the windy blue sky, we all felt the sacredness of the word peace”.

Returning to visit Quang Tri Citadel during the April 30 and May 1 commemorations, veteran Vu Huu Luong, from Ninh Binh, a former soldier of Battalion 21, Regiment 95, who fought in Quang Tri Citadel, confided: “Almost every year I arrange to go to Quang Tri once to burn incense for my comrades who sacrificed their lives during the 81-day and night battle to protect Quang Tri Citadel.

This time, returning on the occasion of the country celebrating the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the mood of soldiers like us is even more emotional and nostalgic when recalling the fierce days on this battlefield. We are lucky to survive to see the country change after 50 years of peace, but many of our comrades did not have the opportunity to see this day.

During the holidays, the number of tourists visiting "red addresses" such as Vinh Moc Tunnels Historical Site and Vinh Linh Tunnel Village System, Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Monument, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Special National Monument, Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, and Road 9 increased 2-3 times compared to previous years. In particular, the peak days of April 30 and May 1 saw each of these historical sites welcome more than 1,000 visitors, most of whom were from other provinces.

Head of the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Historical Relic Management Board Le Thi To Hoai informed: "To ensure attentive service for people and tourists, the unit has mobilized 100% of its staff to work from 6am to 6pm with the spirit of only stopping when all visitors are gone. Although the number of visitors is large and the work intensity is harder than usual, the staff are excited to see more and more people interested in historical sites to learn and visit."

According to statistics from the Provincial Center for Monuments and Museums Management, from April 30 to May 4, 2025, the units welcomed and served about 32,480 domestic and foreign visitors to visit, offer incense and flowers at the monuments, of which about 8,305 visitors paid tickets. The number of visitors to the Museum Exhibition House was about 24,175.

This year's April 30 and May 1 holidays were long and the weather was hot, so tourists gathered in large numbers at beaches in the province such as Vinh Thai, Cua Tung, Gio Hai, Cua Viet, Nhat Tan, My Thuy... waterfalls and streams such as Ta Puong, Chenh Venh, Luoi waterfalls, Ta Lao stream, Tra Loc lagoon...

Arriving at Cua Tung beach on May 2, 2025, we witnessed a sudden increase in the number of visitors. Mr. Tran Khac Quoc, manager of Ly Nhan Hotel, Cua Tung town, said: “More than a week before the holiday, the hotel's 40 rooms were fully booked for the holidays, peaking from April 30 to May 4, 2025. On holidays, the hotel did not increase room rates, and accompanying services such as food and beverage also ensured quality and price to serve tourists.”

Tourist accommodation establishments, tourist areas and tourist attractions in the province have been well prepared in terms of facilities, human resources to serve tourists and conditions to ensure security, safety for visitors, and food hygiene and safety. Strictly implement regulations on registration, public price posting, and selling at the correct listed price for products and services to serve the entertainment, shopping, sightseeing, experience and culinary needs of tourists.

Many localities in the province have proactively organized colorful opening activities for the tourist season, creating a strong ripple effect and attracting a large number of tourists. Typically, Trieu Co commune, Trieu Phong district has opened the beach tourism season at Nhat Tan beach, promising to bring a vibrant beach tourism season.

The traditional Bài Chòi Festival at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Monument was held to evoke the unique cultural values of the land. In particular, Nguyen Hue walking street in Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district has reopened, becoming an attractive destination for tourists to have fun, shop and explore the culture of the Vietnam - Laos border area.

Of which, the beaches and areas of streams, waterfalls and islands will welcome more than 134,000 visitors.
