Truong Sa Island infirmary promptly rescues fisherman suffering from stroke

While exploiting seafood in the Truong Sa sea area, fisherman Nguyen Van Lai (born in 1969, Quang Ngai province), a crew member of fishing boat QNg 90640 TS, suddenly experienced symptoms of fatigue, numbness and weakness in the right side of his body, difficulty speaking, and headache.

At around 11am on August 25, the patient was taken to Truong Sa Island Infirmary for emergency treatment in a conscious state, able to communicate, with paralysis on the right side of the body, slurred speech, crooked mouth, and high blood pressure. Through examination and diagnosis, the doctor determined that the patient had suffered a stroke, paralysis on the right side of the body due to a cerebral infarction at the 11th hour, and needed to be closely monitored.

Doctors on the island quickly performed intravenous fluids, protected brain cells, prevented cerebral edema, and controlled blood pressure; at the same time, performed necessary clinical tests, electrocardiograms, X-rays, tests, and held online consultations with Military Hospital 175 to come up with an appropriate treatment regimen.

According to initial assessment, the patient's condition is serious, with a risk of progressive stroke and cerebral edema. Currently, the military medical force on Truong Sa island continues to closely monitor perception, vital signs, hemodynamic status and promptly report to higher levels for treatment.

The timely rescue of fisherman Nguyen Van Lai once again affirms the sense of responsibility, affection and companionship of officers and soldiers of Truong Sa island towards fishermen going out to sea, contributing to protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
