After two years of construction, the monument "The Ship Gathering for the North" in Quang Tien ward, Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province has been basically completed before the 70th anniversary of welcoming compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South to the North (1954-2024).
The monument “The Ship Gathering for the North” belongs to Sub-area A of the project of the Memorial Area for Southern compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students gathering for the North. The project was invested in construction from August 2022, with a cost of about 80 billion VND from the Thanh Hoa provincial budget and socialized capital.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, Thanh Hoa province coordinated with the Central Southern Student Liaison Committee 1954-1975 to build a "Space to display documents and artifacts about compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South who gathered in the North".
The exhibition space covers an area of over 150 square meters inside the ship's monument compartment, fully equipped with standard sound and lighting equipment.
This place displays nearly 400 valuable documents, artifacts, memorabilia and images related to the process of compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South gathering in the North to live, study, work and work in the North since 1954, collected by Thanh Hoa Provincial Museum over the past several months.
The documents and artifacts are arranged into 6 main topics. They focus on introducing the spirit of thoughtful and enthusiastic reception of the Northern people towards the Southern people in Sam Son and in the North; the Southern people, cadres, soldiers and students who grew up in working, studying, working, fighting and building socialism in the North, preparing forces for the struggle to liberate the South...
With many valuable historical artifacts and documents, after being put into operation, this exhibition space will become an attractive tourist destination, a red address for cultural education and revolutionary traditions for the young generation.
As planned, the official celebration will take place on October 27. Along with the celebration will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the Memorial Site for Southern compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students who gathered in the North.
Implementing the policy of the Party Central Committee, from September 25, 1954 to May 1, 1955, Thanh Hoa province organized 7 receptions, with 1,869 wounded soldiers, 47,346 cadres, 5,922 students and 1,443 families of cadres from the South regrouping to the North.
The government and people of Thanh Hoa province have created the best conditions for food, accommodation, and care for compatriots, cadres, soldiers, and students from the South.
