Inside the nephrology - dialysis department of Hoc Mon District General Hospital (HCMC) in the new 12-storey building
Visiting the nephrology and dialysis department at the new 12-story building of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital (HCMC) on March 5, we noticed that all the hospital beds were full of patients undergoing dialysis. Outside, many patients were sitting waiting for their next dialysis session.
The old kidney and dialysis department is different, cramped and run-down; the new kidney and dialysis department is spacious, airy and modern. Even though they have end-stage chronic kidney disease, the patients are all excited to be treated here.
Having undergone dialysis at the Department of Nephrology - Hemodialysis at Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital since 2017, patient Nguyen Hung Dung (57 years old) said he was very happy to witness the changes in the hospital.
"It's new, clean, and spacious here, so patients feel more comfortable. The medical staff take good care of us, I feel so sorry for them. Patients come and go in and out of the department like family," Mr. Dung said with satisfaction.
Doctor Nguyen Thanh Hoang - Head of the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis at Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital - said that on March 3, the department completed the move to the new facility and began operating.
On March 4, 57 patients scheduled for dialysis on even days had their dialysis performed safely. Today (March 5), another 57 patients scheduled for dialysis on odd days had their dialysis performed safely.
Dr. Hoang added that patients with kidney failure must undergo dialysis for the rest of their lives. Some patients have been with the department since its establishment (in 2016). When the department moved to the new facility, both medical staff and patients were very happy to escape the situation of working and receiving treatment in a degraded facility.
The department is currently managing and monitoring the treatment of 114 patients with end-stage renal failure. There are 3 dialysis sessions per day, with each session having 40 patients, the dialysis time lasts from 3.5 to 4 hours per session.
It is expected that in the near future, the hospital will increase the number of dialysis patients (total of 4 shifts/day) because the number of patients registering for dialysis at the hospital has increased significantly. At this time, the medical staff of the department must work until early the next morning to meet this demand.

Mr. Nguyen Hung Dung (57 years old, residing in Hoc Mon district) has been undergoing dialysis at the Department of Nephrology - Hemodialysis of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital since 2017. He is very excited to witness the changes in the hospital.
Mr. Tran Thanh Sang (54 years old, residing in Xuan Thoi Thuong commune, Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City) said that the Department of Nephrology - Dialysis of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital "opened its arms" to accept him for dialysis at the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic. At that time, many other hospitals refused to accept him due to changing functions.
Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital has been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to purchase 40 more artificial kidney machines for the hospital. Thus, with the existing 20 artificial kidney machines, this year the hospital will have 60 artificial kidney machines.
The Department of Nephrology - Dialysis of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital soon became one of the hospital's spearheads, as agreed by the professional council of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health.

Although in a difficult phase, completing the final items, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital did not forget the task of launching the "humanitarian blood donation" movement, calling on people and healthy medical staff to donate blood to save lives on March 5.
The movement attracted 192 people to donate blood, collecting 255 units of blood, equivalent to 63,750ml of blood to support patients in need of blood for timely emergency care and treatment.
