On the afternoon of June 17, the leader of Quynh Nhai District Police said that this agency has just issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and temporarily detain for 2 months Lo Van Tuan (30 years old) and Quang Van Dung (27 years old), both residing in Ta Ma commune (Tuan Giao district, Dien Bien province), for the crime of "forest destruction", stipulated in Article 243 of the Penal Code.

Previously, on May 4, Quynh Nhai District Police received a report from the Thuan Chau Special-Use and Protective Forest Management Board (Pa Ma Pha Khinh Commune, Quynh Nhai District) that at sub-area 23, block 11, lot 3, coordinates X: 454463 and Y: 2407115, many trees were cut down and about 1.6 hectares of forest were burned.

During the investigation, Quynh Nhai District Police identified Tuan and Dung as the two people who caused the burning, destruction of the forest and cutting down of the above mentioned trees, and summoned them for questioning.

Initially, both admitted their crimes, saying they had cut down the forest to clear land for farming.

Quynh Nhai District Police have applied procedural measures against Tuan and Dung to investigate and handle according to regulations.
