On January 18, the entire national gymnastics team, including the coaching staff and athletes of the men's and women's teams, was summoned by the Department of Physical Education and Sports to explain and clarify the accusations of athlete Pham Nhu Phuong about the "dark area" at the national athlete training facility in Dan Tri newspaper.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Department of Sports and Physical Training (36 Tran Phu, Hanoi). In addition to the coaching staff and athletes of the team, the meeting also had representatives of the High Performance Sports Department I, the Department of Physical Training, and the Hanoi National Sports Training Center.

According to Dan Tri's source, Coach Truong Tuan H., in charge of the men's team, and Ms. Nguyen TTT, in charge of the women's team, had to explain the information that Dan Tri newspaper had reported, regarding the story of falsely declaring monthly Sunday working days to receive overtime training allowance from the state budget, but in reality, they did not practice and shared the falsely declared money.

In addition, the content of the national gymnastics team establishing two funds, including the Central Fund and the Domestic and Foreign Affairs Fund by collecting money from athletes and coaches through the above-mentioned "Sunday wages" is also required by the Department of Sports and Physical Training to ask the coaching staff and athletes to explain in detail.

The Department of Sports and Physical Training also requested the Board of Directors of the National Sports Training Center to report on its responsibility for inspection and supervision in the case, as the act of falsely claiming Sunday working days has been going on for many years.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporter on the evening of January 18, Mr. Dang Ha Viet - Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training - said that the Department is still receiving reports from relevant parties.

Because this is a complicated case, involving many people and many units, all issues recorded in the meeting minutes still need time to be carefully verified, and conclusions cannot be drawn without complete information.

Previously, on January 17, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung directed relevant units to thoroughly handle any violations in the national gymnastics team.

The Ministry has also sent a document requesting the Department of Physical Education and Sports to review the entire management and training process of national sports teams, following the information that athlete Pham Nhu Phuong had been embezzled medal bonus money and many other negative contents. In case of serious violations, the Ministry Inspectorate will step in to clarify.
