On March 14, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, the Secretariat reviewed and disciplined party members who committed violations and shortcomings.

After considering the proposal of the Central Inspection Commission, the Secretariat found that:

Mr. Hoang Van Thang - Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Large Dams and Water Resources Development, former member of the Party Executive Committee, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Rum - former member of the Party Committee, former Secretary of the Party Committee, former Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City have degraded in political ideology, morality and lifestyle.

Violating Party regulations and State laws in performing assigned duties and tasks, in preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity.

Violating regulations on what party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example, causing very serious consequences, huge losses to the state budget, public outrage, and very negative effects on the reputation of the party organization and the agency or unit.

Based on the content, nature, level, consequences, and causes of the violation, according to the Party's regulations on disciplining violating Party members, the Secretariat decided to expel Mr. Hoang Van Thang and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Rum from the Party.

Previously, in January 2025, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Van Thang was prosecuted for "receiving bribes" under Article 354 of the Penal Code.

Mr. Thang was prosecuted in a case of bribery and violation of bidding regulations causing serious consequences, occurring at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hoang Dan Company and related units.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Rum, former Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City (now the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City) was sentenced to 4 years in prison for "lack of responsibility causing serious consequences" and was pardoned in the 2024 amnesty.
