The 65th International Mathematical Olympiad was held from July 11 to July 22, 2024 in the United Kingdom with 109 delegations from 109 countries and territories with 609 contestants. The contestants went through 2 official competition days, with a time of 4.5 hours/day.
According to the regulations, the Organizing Committee officially awards prizes to 50% of the participating contestants. In addition, the Organizing Committee awards certificates of merit to students who achieve the maximum score for a math problem.
This year's exam has a challenging structure for participating students, including Vietnamese students, with two combination problems, one at an average level and one at a difficult level.
Despite certain difficulties in both the exam questions and the health of some students taking the exam, the Vietnamese student delegation achieved good results and was highly appreciated in the region. This result continues to affirm the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting, nurturing and training excellent students of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The IMO 2024 Organizing Committee will hold the Closing and Awards Ceremony on 21 July, starting at 16:00 (UK time).
The results of the Vietnamese team this year were lower than last year and there was no Gold medal. Last year, the Vietnamese national team consisted of 6 members competing, and the results were 2 Gold medals, 2 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals.
