On the morning of December 11, the 2024 International Conference of the ASEAN University Network for Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) hosted by Ton Duc Thang University opened with the participation of 150 universities, accreditation organizations and educational institutions in the ASEAN region.

The conference took place over three days with various discussion topics. The main forum was themed "Innovating Higher Education in Southeast Asia: Applying Artificial Intelligence, Data Management and Developing a Culture of Quality for the Future".

Experts, educators and university representatives share experiences, discuss the important role of artificial intelligence, data-driven strategies and quality culture in improving the quality of education.

There are also forums for AUN-QA assessors to share experiences, discuss professional issues and improve their capacity in educational quality assessment, and forums dedicated to quality assurance leaders of AUN-QA member universities.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Huynh Van Chuong - Director of the Department of Quality Management of the Ministry of Education and Training - said that ensuring and assessing the quality of Vietnamese education has been strongly legalized.

The work of ensuring and assessing educational quality is currently of top concern to the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnamese higher education institutions. As of November 30, 2024, Vietnam had 2,179 quality-accredited programs, of which 621 programs were assessed according to international standards.

In addition, 208 higher education institutions achieved quality accreditation, of which 12 were accredited according to foreign standards.

Ensuring and accrediting the quality of higher education is not only the responsibility of each country, but also a common concern of the entire international community, especially in the ASEAN region.

In the context of knowledge economy, green economy, circular economy, digital economy, profound changes in science and technology fields and rapid development of information technology, the assessment of education quality becomes even more urgent.

"The AUN-QA International Conference is an opportunity for experts and assessors in the region to come together to clarify the standards and processes of educational quality assessment, propose improvements to the set of assessment criteria that are more suitable in the current context, and create a solid foundation for higher education institutions to effectively implement quality assessment processes," said Mr. Chuong.

For the first time, Vietnamese university organized

The first AUN-QA International Conference was held in 2016 in Indonesia. To date, the conference has been held 6 times in 4 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines).

The conference not only provides an opportunity for ASEAN countries and the international community to share experiences and discuss current and practical issues in managing and improving the quality of higher education.

In addition, this conference is also an opportunity for Vietnamese higher education institutions to affirm their role and commitment in ensuring educational quality in the region and deeply integrating into the world.

This is the first time this conference has been held in Vietnam.
