On August 8, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien worked with Quang Ngai province on the situation of industrial production, trade and implementation of national sectoral plans in the fields of energy and minerals in the province.

Reporting at the meeting, a representative of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee said that the industrial production situation in the province in the first 7 months of 2024 showed positive signs. GRDP in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at more than 28,300 billion VND. Of which, the added value of the industrial sector is estimated at more than 8,000 billion VND. Trade promotion activities were promoted. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increased by 9.2% over the same period last year. Export turnover increased by 10.7%. Import turnover increased by 18.2%.

Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee is coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in developing the project of the National Oil Refinery and Energy Center in Dung Quat Economic Zone. The Dung Quat I, II and III Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant projects under the Central Electricity Center are implementing steps regarding documents and procedures.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Giang said that in the first 7 months of 2024, industrial and commercial activities in the province had many encouraging results. However, there are still limitations that need the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the province.

According to Mr. Giang, Quang Ngai currently has 5 industrial parks (3 in the economic zone and 2 outside the economic zone), 20 industrial clusters. Compared to provinces with the same economic scale, this number is still modest. Commercial infrastructure is still limited and there is still a lot of potential room for development. The number of medium-sized enterprises in the province is still small compared to other localities. The whole province has nearly 6,000 enterprises, but only 1/3 of enterprises contribute to the budget revenue, the province's low CPI (consumer price index) also reflects this situation.

Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Giang hopes that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to support the province to exploit its potential and advantages for industrial and commercial development.

“Quang Ngai province’s CPI in the first seven months of the year increased by 3.28% compared to 4.12% for the whole country. Low CPI is good. But compared to the general level, low CPI also means that trade in the province is not vibrant and bustling,” said Mr. Giang.

In order to exploit the potential for industrial and commercial development, the Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and its units pay attention to helping the province in activities related to industrial and commercial activities from questions and answers, solving problems, and providing guidance. Along with that, introduce investors to the province such as investing in commercial centers, industrial infrastructure projects, and industrial production projects in industrial parks and clusters.

Concluding the working session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the seriousness and receptiveness of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province in preparing the working content with the working delegation.

According to the Minister, the industry and trade sector of Quang Ngai province still has limitations, difficulties and challenges that need to be focused on overcoming.

First of all, the proportion of industry accounts for a large proportion of the province's GRDP, but the structure of the industrial sectors is still seriously unbalanced, depending heavily on the refining and petrochemical sectors; the mining industry has not developed commensurate with its potential. Some large projects in the industrial and energy sectors in the area are still facing difficulties.

The linkage chain between the refining and petrochemical industry and downstream and raw material industries is still limited, and the supporting industry is developing slowly. There is a lack of high-quality local human resources, most of whom are still unskilled workers with low qualifications and skills; The development of the marine economy is not commensurate with its potential, and has not created the main driving force for the province's socio-economic development...

Regarding the key tasks and solutions proposed by Quang Ngai province in the coming time, the Minister basically agreed and suggested that the locality pay attention to implementing a number of key tasks.

Promote the connection between Dung Quat Economic Zone and Chu Lai Open Economic Zone to form a key coastal industrial center in Quang Ngai.

Quang Ngai also needs to promote the restructuring of the industrial sector towards modernization, increasing the contribution of industrial production to local GRDP. In particular, on the one hand, focusing on developing key industries such as petrochemical refining, high-quality steel smelting, shipbuilding industry, etc.

Flexibly apply effective investment models to mobilize social resources for investment in infrastructure development, especially connecting traffic infrastructure, logistics infrastructure and infrastructure of important industrial parks that have been established, especially Dung Quat economic zone to promote investment attraction, especially in high-tech industries with high added value.

Actively promote the connection between Dung Quat Economic Zone and Chu Lai Open Economic Zone to form a key coastal industrial center of the Central Coast region and the whole country. At the same time, build Dung Quat into a National Oil Refinery and Energy Center.
