The player who broke the record for most matches played in football history appeared

By participating in the match where Fluminense defeated America de Cali (Colombia) 2-0 at Copa Sudamericana (South American Club Championship) on the morning of August 20 (Brazil time), goalkeeper Fabio (Fluminense) has played a total of 1,391 matches in his career.

This achievement helped Fabio (44 years old) surpass goalkeeper Peter Shilton (England, 1,390 matches) to become the player with the most matches in football history.

Fluminense FC marked Fabio's historic moment with a special ceremony. The Brazilian club presented the goalkeeper with a plaque and a portrait with the number of matches played in his career.

In 1,391 matches played, Fabio played 976 matches for Cruzeiro, 235 matches for Fluminense, 150 matches for Vasco da Gama and 30 matches for his first club Uniao Bandeirante.

The top players in football history are mostly goalkeepers. In addition to Fabio and Shilton, there are also goalkeepers Paul Bastock (England, 1,284 games) and Rogerio Ceni (Brazil, 1,226 games).

The only non-goalkeeper on the list is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar has played 1,287 games. He is still a long way from Fabio's record.
