Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife were promoted to the Legion of Honor.

On July 14, the ICISE Center (Gia Lai province) announced that the couple Professor Tran Thanh Van (Chairman of the Association for the Promotion of Vietnamese Children in France) and his wife Le Kim Ngoc (Chairman of the Association for the Protection of Vietnamese Children in France) had just been awarded and promoted to the Legion of Honor as officer by the French President.

This is the most prestigious award of the French State, in recognition of the outstanding and persistent contributions of two professors of Vietnamese origin for decades in the fields of science and humanitarian activities. The official award ceremony took place on the occasion of the French National Day (July 14).

Professor Tran Thanh Van, from Dong Hoi ( Quang Binh province; now Quang Tri province), is a world-famous theoretical physicist. He is the founder of a series of conferences and meetings in the international scientific and physics community such as: Meeting Moriond; Meeting Blois and especially the series of events Meeting Vietnam that have taken place over the past 32 years.

In 2000, Professor Tran Thanh Van was awarded the first Knight of the Legion of Honor by the President of France. In 2012, he was one of three Asians to be awarded the Tate Medal of the American Physical Society, which honors physicists who have made outstanding contributions to promoting international scientific cooperation, especially in the field of physics.

Professor Le Kim Ngoc (from Vinh Long province) is an outstanding female scientist, the first person in the world to introduce the concept of “thin cell slicing” in plant biotechnology. She was directly awarded the Legion of Honor, Knight, by French President François Hollande in 2016, in Ho Chi Minh City.

Since 2008, Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife returned to Vietnam to initiate the ICISE project in Quy Nhon (now Gia Lai province). After more than a decade, ICISE has welcomed over 16,500 scientists from over 60 countries, including 18 Nobel Prize winners, becoming a symbol of connecting knowledge and humanistic values of science.

Besides ICISE, the two professors' mark is also reflected in activities such as organizing the Vietnam Meeting, the Vallet Scholarship Fund, supporting SOS Children's Villages and promoting education for the young generation...
