Vietnam to host 33rd ASEAN Customs Directors-General Meeting in early June - Lang Son Electronic Newspaper

Speaking at a press conference on the morning of May 21 in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet Nga, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, General Department of Customs, said that from June 4 to 6, the General Department of Customs will host the 33rd ASEAN Customs Directors-General Conference in Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province.

The conference was attended by 10 delegations of ASEAN Customs led by their General Directors, Timor Leste Customs as observers and the ASEAN Secretariat. Senior leaders of the World Customs Organization and Customs from Australia, China, Korea and Japan. The private sector included: ASEAN Business Advisory Council, ASEAN-US Business Council and ASEAN-EU Business Council.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet Nga, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, General Department of Customs, spoke at the press conference.

The conference will discuss 12 agenda items, focusing on the following: Discussing to unify programs and solutions, continuing to implement and complete the goals set in the ASEAN Customs Development Strategy Plans for the period 2021-2025. In particular, focusing on a number of priority items such as exchanging electronic documents through the ASEAN Single Window, implementing the ASEAN Customs Transit System (ACTS), the roadmap for implementing the Mutual Recognition Agreement on Priority Enterprises in ASEAN, etc.

Besides, the conference is also a forum for Customs ASEAN strengthens dialogue and consultation with ASEAN dialogue partners to achieve goals in line with the economic development situation in the new period such as Green Customs, building a customs data ecosystem, customs modernization, electronic data exchange, customs management for e-commerce, simplifying customs procedures for low-value shipments, etc.

Since Vietnam became a member of ASEAN, Vietnam Customs has successfully hosted three ASEAN Customs Directors-General Conferences in 1995, 2004 and 2014. Therefore, Vietnam Customs has made more efforts to prepare more carefully to successfully organize the fourth Conference, contributing to enhancing the position and image of Vietnam in the eyes of international friends.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet Nga emphasized: "In the role of ASEAN Customs Chair for the 2024-2025 term, Vietnam Customs will make every effort to fulfill its responsibility in actively coordinating and promoting countries to implement on schedule and on schedule with priority contents on single window, transit and mutual recognition of priority enterprises; encourage countries to increase exchanges, update information, share experiences and lessons learned in the actual implementation process, narrowing the gap between member Customs agencies".
