The world-famous travel magazine praised Da Nang as “the best place for a casual coastal vacation” while Hanoi is ideal for its “simple vibes”.
Da Nang, ranked third on the list, is famous for its Son Tra Peninsula, which has a beautiful long coastline, with a series of hotels offering beach views with large windows, balconies and infinity pools.
Solo travelers on a budget need not worry, as the average room rate here is VND1 million, according to the Australian-based magazine. From Da Nang, visitors can easily visit the ancient town of Hoi An, a 30-minute drive away, and the ancient capital of Hue, Vietnam.
Number 6 on the list is Hanoi. Solo travelers should explore the Old Quarter, a colorful maze of narrow streets lined with shops and street food stalls.
Lonely Planet suggests visitors stop at one of the cafes and order a cup of coffee while watching the street.
In particular, the magazine commented that Vietnamese people are very hospitable, so tourists should not be too surprised to see young people starting conversations to practice communicating in English.
Top ideal destinations in Southeast Asia for solo travelers include Singapore, Penang (Malaysia), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Bangkok (Thailand) and Bali (Indonesia).
Criteria for selecting ideal destinations for tourists include safety, crime rate, convenience of public transport, Wi-Fi coverage, affordable costs, rich landscapes, unique culture and attractive cuisine.
