Vietnam updates the latest applications of 3D technology in medicine

3D printing technology in medicine brings miraculous values ​​and impacts to patients, even beyond the current imagination of doctors. Thanks to this technology, hospitals can use surgical instruments that fit the anatomy of Vietnamese people at a cost much lower than imported products from the US or Europe. Professor Tran Trung Dung - Professional Director of the Center for 3D Technology in Medicine and Head of the Department of Orthopedics at VinUni, and Director of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology - Musculoskeletal Surgery, Vinmec Healthcare System emphasized this at the International Conference on Application of 3D Technology in Medicine, taking place in Hanoi for 2 days (April 5-6). According to Professor Tran Trung Dung, the application of 3D technology in medicine is an advanced technology that not only creates a revolution in the anatomy of human body parts but also opens up opportunities to develop personalized medicine with maximum accuracy, minimizing complications and costs for patients.

The International Conference on Application of 3D Technology in Medicine is an opportunity for Vietnamese doctors to learn more experience from the world's leading experts, expand the field of research, and create a premise for widespread application in Vietnam in the near future. At the event, Vinmec officially announced that it will deploy 3D technology in 100% of hospitals in the Vinmec Healthcare System in 2024. Previously, since 2022, Vinmec has cooperated with the Center for 3D Technology in Medicine (VinUni University) to use 3D technology to successfully perform about 200 surgeries in the field of Orthopedics with an accuracy rate of joint size approaching 100%, including 84 total knee replacements, 31 total hip replacements, 27 cancer/bone dysplasia treatments, and many complex joint replacements and orthopedics. This is a breakthrough development of the first and only medical unit applying 3D technology to routine diagnosis and treatment in Vietnam. The conference took place over 2 days, including 3 parts: Scientific report; Exhibition and training, attracting the attention and participation of more than 1,000 professors and doctors from the country and internationally, directly and on the online platform.

At the scientific reporting session, the speakers presented many important reports, carefully selected, of practical significance, divided into many different thematic sessions: Orthopedic trauma; Dentistry; Cardiovascular; Engineering-materials... In particular, the speakers together updated the latest application advances of 3D technology in Medicine. The Training Session at the Conference was chaired by Chief Engineer Fanny Soh from Materialise (Belgium) - a leading corporation in 3D printing technology with content on surgical planning (applicable to any medical specialty: Orthopedic trauma, Dentistry, Neurology, Cardiovascular, Urology...). One of the highlights of the conference was the Exhibition demonstrating 3D technology in medicine.
