On March 18, Nha Trang Pasteur Institute announced the results of food sample testing in the above poisoning case.
Through testing food samples, hand samples, water samples, and clinical samples, the institute determined that: fried onion samples were positive for Salmonella spp.; vegetables (pickles) were positive for Bacillus cereus; and hand samples of patient Le Thi Bich Lan (36 years old) were positive for Staphylococcus aureus.
The remaining chicken rice sample (rice with egg sauce and shredded chicken rice) purchased at a patient's household at 5:00 p.m. on March 12 was positive for Salmonella spp., Bacillus cereus bacteria that produce NHE (Non-haemolytic enterotoxin) and HBL (Hemolysin BL).
Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health - said that the results of Nha Trang Pasteur Institute clearly identifying the types of bacteria will help facilitate treatment. After clearly identifying the cause of the poisoning, the department will coordinate with the City Police and the City People's Committee to carry out the next steps, including handling and punishing.

Hundreds of poisoning patients have been discharged from hospital
Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health - also said that up to this point, all the cases being treated are recovering well. After 1-3 days, all the remaining patients will be discharged from the hospital.
The case of a pregnant woman 18 weeks pregnant being treated at Khanh Hoa General Hospital, her condition has improved significantly, diarrhea has stopped. The patient from the intensive care - anti-poisoning department has been transferred to the neurology department for continued treatment.
According to the report of Khanh Hoa Department of Health, as of 3:00 p.m. on March 18, the number of cases currently being treated was 75, the number of discharged cases was 177, and the number of cases prescribed for outpatient monitoring was 117.
