MOTIVATION FOR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
According to the leader of the Department of Science and Technology of Cao Bang province, the recent implementation of the project "Supporting the national innovation and startup ecosystem" in the locality has created a strong driving force for businesses, cooperatives and people to apply scientific and technological advances in production and business. The results achieved show that the above project not only raises awareness of the essential role of science, technology and innovation in the entire political system, businesses and people but also promotes the application of technology, improves product quality and improves community life.
Tan Viet A Agricultural Cooperative, located in Minh Tam Commune, Nguyen Binh District, has been operating since 2017. Up to now, the cooperative has completed the production process of dong vermicelli, owning and developing the Tan Viet A dong vermicelli brand. After a period of operation and production, the product was certified as a 4-star OCOP product in early 2025.

The cooperative's production has initially been successful. Currently, the process of producing cassava vermicelli from pre-processing cassava to collect starch, filtering flour, pressing and rolling vermicelli fibers all use modern machinery, helping to improve processing productivity and product quality. Not only conquering the domestic market, the first tons of cassava vermicelli of the Cooperative have been successfully exported to the US market.
To ensure quality raw materials, the Cooperative has linked up and built a 25-hectare raw material area in Phan Thanh and Yen Lac communes, Nguyen Binh district, and at the same time purchased cassava products, stabilizing farmers' income, creating jobs for six regular workers and 12 seasonal workers.
Bao Lac District is a locality with great potential for growing medicinal plants. Hatodo Limited Company exploits local raw materials to develop 3-star and 4-star OCOP products including: red fo-ti, ginseng, lingzhi and specialty fragrant sticky rice. In 2018, with the support of the Department of Science and Technology of Cao Bang, Hatodo Company implemented the project "Application of science and technology to build a model for growing and processing red fo-ti medicinal plants in Bao Lac District, Cao Bang Province".
Mr. Ninh Van Tuyen, Director of the Company, said that currently, the area of red fo-ti cultivation in Bao Lac district has reached nearly 30 hectares, of which the company's concentrated cultivation area is 20 hectares in seven communes and towns of Bao Lac, and people grow more than 9 hectares in other communes in the district. In addition, the company has expanded the experimental area of red fo-ti cultivation in two more provinces: Ha Giang and Lang Son. Each year, in addition to consuming more than 100 tons of fresh fo-ti tubers to the market, the company has also invested in a complete system of advanced production lines, modern Japanese technology, with a multi-purpose extraction system and vacuum circulation concentration, with a capacity of 100 kg of fo-ti extract/batch.
REMOVE THE "BOTTOM LINE" OF APPLYING TECHNOLOGY IN PRODUCTION
In 2024, Cao Bang province recorded an economic scale of more than VND 25,204 billion, of which the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector contributed VND 5,249 billion, accounting for nearly 21% of the economic scale. The growth rate of this sector reached 3.25%, reflecting positive development thanks to the application of scientific and technological advances to improve productivity and product quality.
Many high-tech agricultural models have been implemented such as: using automatic irrigation systems, microbial fertilizers and high-yield crop varieties... In the field of processing industry, many enterprises, cooperatives and business households in Cao Bang have made many changes thanks to the application of science and technology in production. Production facilities for vermicelli, tea, medicinal herbs and black jelly have applied advanced technology in processing and preservation stages, not only increasing the quality and value of products but also helping local products meet export standards.
Although Cao Bang province has made progress in applying science and technology to production and life, the locality is still facing many challenges. These difficulties include a shortage of high-quality human resources, limited investment capital and access to new technology for some enterprises, cooperatives and farmers. In particular, funding for research, application, technology transfer and start-up and innovation activities from enterprises in the province is still low. Many enterprises have not proactively invested in improving their technological level and capacity; the proportion of science and technology human resources in enterprises is still low... These factors affect the process of extensive development of scientific and technological activities.
Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Cao Bang province, Nong Thanh Huyen, said: To overcome difficulties and continue to strongly apply science and technology to life and production, the department will strengthen consultation and coordination to promote innovation, applied research, transfer, acceptance of advances, and development of science and technology to serve the goals and sustainable development of the province.
In particular, enterprises and people are identified as the center in promoting the introduction of new technologies, moving towards application and transfer, and putting them into practice. The State plays a role in supporting, guiding and connecting enterprises with experts, scientists, and scientific and technological organizations. At the same time, the locality will promote the application of biotechnology and information technology in selection, breeding, application of production processes, preservation, and processing of agricultural and forestry products, especially products with strengths of the province. The restoration, conservation, exploitation and development of genetic resources of valuable local specialty crops and livestock for mass production will create new momentum for local growth and development.
