Tuyen Quang - Proud of the place where the desire for independence originated

Eighty years have passed since the historic autumn of 1945, but memories of the August Revolution remain intact in the hearts of the Vietnamese people.

In the highlands at the headland of the Fatherland - the land that is now the newly unified Tuyen Quang province - there are still places bearing the bold footprints of the revolution: Tan Trao, Cang Bac Me, and Trong Con sub-region... like endless sources of patriotism and the desire for independence and freedom.

Where the Revolution Began

When mentioning the August Revolution, we cannot help but mention Tan Trao - the sacred land chosen as the center of command for the national uprising. Here, in the mountains and forests of Tuyen Quang, President Ho Chi Minh and the Party Central Committee lived, worked and made historic decisions that led to the great success of the nation.

Amidst the shady rows of palm trees and the sound of babbling streams, Na Nua Hut - where Uncle Ho lived and worked from the end of May to August 22, 1945 - remains silent as a witness to the moment of national transformation.

Also here, many important documents were drafted by Uncle Ho, including the General Uprising Directive. Tan Trao Communal House - where the National Congress on August 16-17, 1945 approved the general uprising policy, elected the Vietnam National Liberation Committee headed by President Ho Chi Minh.

Under the shade of the Tan Trao banyan tree on the afternoon of August 16, 1945, General Vo Nguyen Giap read Military Order No. 1, issuing the order for a nationwide uprising. Amidst the applause and expectant eyes of the people, the Liberation Army held a ceremony to march out, initiating the General Uprising to seize power throughout the country.

Mr. Ha Huu Tiep, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Trao Commune, Tuyen Quang Province shared: Tan Trao today is not only a place to preserve the heroic memories of the nation but also a sacred destination for every Vietnamese person. Activities to educate about traditions, political activities, incense offering, environmental sanitation... are regularly organized to spread the revolutionary spirit to the younger generation.

Revolutionary fire from the mountainous region

Located next to the cool stream of Bang Hanh commune, Trong Con sub-region used to be a "red stronghold" during the boiling revolutionary years.

Named after Hero Ly Tu Trong, the sub-region includes the communes of Bang Hanh, Lien Hiep, Kim Ngoc, Vo Diem, and Huu San - where the first revolutionary cadres "sown the red seeds" for patriotic movements.

Only a short time after the armed propaganda team of 54 soldiers led by comrades Le Quang Ba and Be Trieu entered this area, a series of organizations such as guerrilla teams, national salvation groups, and political classes were established.

On June 24, 1945, a large rally in Thac Ve announced the establishment of a revolutionary government, burned feudal decrees, and ended hundreds of years of oppression.

From a small sub-district, Trong Con contributed to building up the strength, momentum and spirit for the August general uprising. Up to now, Trong Con sub-district is not only a national revolutionary relic, but also a destination for traditional education for the younger generation.

"Revolutionary school" in prison

Few people expect that in the middle of the steep and dangerous mountains on the slopes of Dragon Mountain - Don Dien village, Yen Cuong commune, Tuyen Quang province, there is a place that used to be "hell on earth", where the French colonialists imprisoned communist soldiers - that is Bac Me Camp.

From 1939 to 1942, this place became a political prison camp with the aim of suppressing patriotism. But even in that prison, the revolutionary soldiers did not give up. They organized party cell activities, secretly contacted the outside, distributed leaflets, and maintained their faith in revolutionary ideals.

Bac Me Prison has gone beyond the meaning of a prison camp - becoming a symbol of indomitable spirit, of the will to "turn prison into a revolutionary school."

Mr. Nong Van Duc, a resident of Yen Cuong commune, confided: “We are always proud because the place where we live is a part of the nation’s history. Preserving Bac Me Citadel is not only preserving a relic, but also preserving the spirit of our ancestors to pass on to our descendants.”

Tuyen Quang - Continuing the spirit of the August Revolution

With the merger of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang provinces, the new Tuyen Quang land has formed a vast cultural and historical space, where the “living museums” of the Vietnamese revolution gather. From Tan Trao - the capital of the Liberated Zone, Bac Me Camp - hell turned into a glorious platform, to Trong Con Sub-region burning with enthusiasm... all have woven an unforgettable epic in the history of the nation.

Sharing at the flower and incense offering ceremony to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh and revolutionary predecessors at the Tan Trao special national relic site - a place marking sacred milestones in the journey to save the country (held on August 8), Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army emphasized: The series of activities to return to the source organized in Tan Trao is to pay tribute to the past and give strength to the current generation of cadres and soldiers. Every inch of land here is soaked in blood and bones, and has great educational value in patriotism and revolutionary will.

Among the crowd returning to the source, Ms. Nguyen Thi Be, a tourist from Ben Tre province, was moved: “I never thought I would have the opportunity to stand at the place where Uncle Ho lived and made historic decisions. All the emotions came flooding back, both pride and infinite gratitude.”

Today, on that land, new bridges have been extended, highways are being urgently completed, and people's lives are increasingly prosperous. Historical relics are preserved, restored, and linked to the development of revolutionary tourism - creating livelihoods and raising awareness of preserving traditions.

Looking back eighty years, the August Revolution is not only a brilliant milestone in the nation's history but also a flame that lights up the aspiration for development today.

The land of Tuyen Quang, with its loyal and loyal people, is still writing the heroic song of revolution every day through the process of innovation and integration, to be worthy of being the revolutionary homeland - the origin of independence, freedom and aspirations for a bright future./.
