According to VNA correspondent in Laos, on August 12, in the capital Vientiane, a scientific conference on the role of journalism in the technological age took place.
The event took place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Lao Press, Communications and Printing Day, with the participation of many delegates from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Australia.
This is an opportunity for managers, experts, journalists and representatives of regional press agencies to share experiences and discuss development trends of the press and media industry in the digital age.
In particular, in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) creating strong changes, opinions at the forum emphasized the important role of the press in orienting public opinion, protecting ideological foundations and promoting the national image.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Bui Xuan Tu, Head of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Resident Office in Laos, gave an overview of the formation, development and integration process of VNA over the past 80 years; said that in the context of science and technology, especially digital technology and AI, which are developing rapidly, VNA has proactively applied new technologies to the entire process of news production, editing and distribution.
From using smart content management systems, analyzing user data, to applying AI in translation support, information verification and automating some stages of news production, VNA constantly innovates to improve content quality and meet the increasingly diverse needs of readers.

Despite applying modern technology, VNA remains steadfast in ensuring the maintenance of the fundamental values of news information, providing accurate, reliable, timely, rich, and well-oriented popular information sources and reference reporting sources with high levels of strategic, analytical, and forecast information - core values that create the reputation and brand of the national news agency.
Thanks to that, VNA has increasingly affirmed its position as one of the pioneering press agencies in innovation, receiving the trust of a large number of domestic readers as well as recognition from international media organizations.
Within the framework of the workshop, delegates discussed in depth topics such as AI application in press production and publishing; exploiting big data to improve reader experience; digital transformation in the field of media and printing; solutions to handle fake news and false news on cyberspace...
In particular, AI is seen as an effective tool to speed up content production, personalize information and identify fake news. However, there are also many concerns related to ethical and legal issues when AI is abused to create sophisticated misinformation, threatening transparency and public trust.
In addition to the topics of digital transformation and artificial intelligence applications in journalism, the workshop also devoted time to in-depth discussions on creative solutions to generate income for press agencies in the context of the media industry facing many challenges.
At the end of the workshop, delegates agreed that to adapt to the digital age, press agencies in the region need to strengthen cooperation, share experiences and promote the application of modern technology, especially AI and big data.
Thereby, the press not only improves propaganda effectiveness but also contributes to building a more transparent, multi-dimensional and humane media environment in the region and the world./ .
