Quang Ninh Newspaper and Radio and Television Headquarters - From innovative thinking to iconic construction

The Provincial Media Center, now renamed Quang Ninh Newspaper, Radio and Television, officially came into operation on January 1, 2019 on the basis of merging the province's information and press agencies according to the Press Law and the National Press Planning. This is the first provincial press agency model in the country, established under the direction of the Central Party Secretariat.

Immediately after the merger, Quang Ninh Newspaper, Radio and Television quickly built an organizational model and arranged the apparatus in accordance with the model of a multimedia convergence newsroom - a modern press agency newsroom organization model following the new trend of international journalism. At the same time, the quality of press products' content has been constantly improved, creating a breakthrough in information on channels and publications, meeting the public's information needs, ensuring the best implementation of the province's political tasks, affirming its position in cooperative relationships with domestic and foreign press agencies.

However, because it is a merged agency from 4 previously independent agencies, namely Quang Ninh Newspaper, Provincial Radio and Television Station, Provincial Electronic Information Portal and Ha Long Newspaper, nearly 300 cadres, reporters and employees of Quang Ninh Newspaper and Radio and Television must operate at 2 separate facilities, with difficult connection infrastructure. In particular, continuing to promote innovation and creativity in new types of journalism and communication following new trends faces many limitations; organizing meetings, professional training, resolutions... must all be implemented on an online platform between 2 headquarters. Along with that, supporting, connecting cadres, reporters, employees or directing production organization, especially at peak times of propaganda, sudden events are often not focused...

In that context, with the spirit of continuing to promote tradition, boldly innovating, prioritizing resources for development drivers, creating favorable conditions for modern press operations, catching up with new trends in the "flow" of information, Quang Ninh has decided to invest in building the headquarters of Quang Ninh Newspaper, Radio and Television in Ha Long ward. The project has a total investment of nearly 800 billion VND from the provincial budget with a 20-storey building design, a total height of over 105m, and a floor area of nearly 22,000m2. In particular, the 5-storey base block, the 14-storey tower block are specialized working areas, film studios, technical areas, food service and kitchen areas, common areas... The blocks are synchronously connected, interconnected, and have all functional subdivisions, meeting specialized technical requirements.

The highlight of the project is the impressive design, inspired by the natural beauty of Ha Long Bay. The harmonious combination of three main colors: gray, white and blue creates a harmonious picture of mountains, clouds, sky and sea. The architectural form evokes the image of majestic, natural rocky mountains. Along with that, the cool green campus and auxiliary works such as guardhouses, internal roads, technical systems and decorative lighting are invested synchronously, not only meeting the requirements of use, but also creating an attractive landscape space, suitable for future urban development.

The project has been deployed since September 2023. During the construction process, the project encountered some difficulties. That is, the geology of the area is complex, the mass piles are deeper than the design; below the foundation is a caster cave system, many locations have up to 3 cave floors, some piles have to be drilled deeper than 70m to reach the hard rock layer... However, the investor and contractors have agreed to adjust, deploy appropriate construction measures, and promptly apply advanced construction technology to overcome. Along with that, overtime is organized to compensate for slow progress due to having to deal with arising difficulties.

After nearly 2 years of construction, the Quang Ninh Newspaper, Radio and Television headquarters has completed all items, ensuring compliance with design, technology, and aesthetics, and is a unique architectural highlight, in harmony with the overall area. At the same time, it is assessed by experts as suitable in terms of scale, functionality, catching up with new development trends in information flow, digital transformation in the field of journalism and overcoming existing infrastructure problems.

On August 19, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, the headquarters of Quang Ninh Newspaper, Radio and Television will be officially inaugurated and put into use. The project not only meets the information mission needs of the province, ensuring that the press agency operates effectively, modernly, has prestige, wide influence, commensurate with the position and role of a service province, industry, high-quality service center..., but also affirms the continued realization of the province's innovative, creative thinking, drastic and pioneering actions in implementing the viewpoints, guidelines and policies of the Party and State in recent years.
