Growing vegetables to sell for Tet, farmers in the mountainous town of Huong Khe earn good profits

Vegetable prices are high and easy to sell, farmers in Huong Khe town (Huong Khe, Ha Tinh ) are excited to harvest, promising a more prosperous Tet.

The fertile alluvial land of the Tiem River near Huong Khe town was planned by farmers in residential groups 6 and 8 to become a clean vegetable production area.

There are 24 households producing here with an area of about more than 2.5 hectares.

On average, each household has 1 - 2 sao of vegetable fields.

To prepare for the Tet market, since October, people have planted all kinds of vegetables such as: cabbage, carrots, potatoes, kohlrabi, cauliflower, cucumber, eggplant, chrysanthemums, and various types of mustard greens...

The fields are silted up every year, the soil is fertile so the vegetable fields have quite high yields. According to the people, this year's Tet season, the production area is expected to harvest about 30 tons...

However, productivity is still lower than other localities due to the harsh weather of Huong Khe.

In return, the quality of vegetables here is quite delicious and the farmers ensure food safety and hygiene processes, so they are popular in the market.

Ms. Nguyen Huong - residential group 8 (Huong Khe town) shared that Tet vegetables are very easy to sell, even at times when there is a shortage, our vegetables are more expensive than imported vegetables from other places, but many people still ask to buy them.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu - Residential Group 8: "Producing vegetables and tubers in Huong Khe is more difficult and requires more effort than in other areas, but the Tet market is very favorable, so people are very excited. In the days before Tet, if we harvest a lot, we can earn up to a million VND/day".

Vice President of Huong Khe Town Farmers' Association Nguyen Thi Nguyet said: To facilitate people to consume products, the Farmers' Association has coordinated to open a clean vegetable, root and fruit selling point on Ha Huy Tap Street, Residential Group 8. Through this, it contributes to introducing and promoting local products and helping vegetable growers to have a more fulfilling Tet holiday.
