Growing sweet corn on riverside alluvial land brings high profits

These days, farmers in Nghia Hop commune (Tan Ky) go to the fields to harvest sweet corn to sell to production-linked enterprises.

Ms. Dang Thi Van - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Ky district said: In the 2023 Winter crop, Tan Ky district will continue to implement the sweet corn production linkage model with a scale of 5 hectares in Nghia Hop commune, implemented by 2 households bidding for land.

Accordingly, the model is supported with 50% of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. After nearly 3 months of planting and caring, the harvest has now been completed, showing that the sweet corn yield here is from 12 - 15 tons/ha. The business side buys at 5,000 VND/kg, people earn from 60 - 70 million VND/ha, after deducting costs, the profit is about 40%.

"This sweet corn model has been implemented by Tan Ky district since last winter crop. This winter crop has proven successful in terms of productivity and income. Therefore, in the coming years, the locality will continue to cooperate with businesses to expand it," said Ms. Dang Thi Van.
