The tournament attracted the participation of more than 10 localities, in which localities with strong movements such as Ho Chi Minh City, the Army, Da Nang, and Hanoi are still the leading flags. Although the two strong units Tay Ninh and Binh Duong were absent, the tournament did not lose its appeal. Many young tennis players have begun to assert their talents through this tournament. Not only do they have the opportunity to gain more experience and improve their achievements, but the tennis players also demonstrate their progress through each match, thereby serving as a basis for the Vietnam Tennis Federation to evaluate and rank young athletes.
Female tennis player from Ho Chi Minh City plays impressively
At the U.18 level, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation has prepared and invested carefully, bringing many talented and experienced players to the tournament. Notable among them is young player Nguyen Minh Phat, who just won the men's singles championship at the ITF U.18 J60 tournament held in Thailand. In addition, there is also the appearance of the pair Tuan Minh and Quang Vinh (who won the men's doubles championship at the ITF J60 tournament held in Tay Ninh earlier this year).
With quality players, Ho Chi Minh City excellently won the first place in the whole delegation when winning 2 championships of the U.18 age group in both the men's and women's team events. In the final match of the U.18 men's team event, Minh Phat and Quang Vinh played focused from the beginning, so they won a sweet victory over Minh Thien and Ba Kiet of Ninh Binh. Meanwhile, Vo Que Lam and Tran Tchouassi Luoise Natasha also surpassed female players of Hanoi and Bac Giang to win the championship in the U.18 women's team event. In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation also won third place in the U.14 men's team event and the U.14 women's team event.
Awarding the U.18 men's team
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu My, General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Tennis Federation, said: "We focus on the U.18 age group because this is the next generation to supplement the Ho Chi Minh City team in the future and the achievements they have achieved are very proud. Due to the nature of our training, which is 3-4 years per generation, we are starting to nurture the U.14 generation. Therefore , the third place for both men and women is very encouraging. Hopefully, they will improve more to make more progress in the future."
Ho Chi Minh City won first prize overall
Besides Ho Chi Minh City, the Da Nang team also made a strong impression at this year's tournament. In addition to the two championships in the U.14 men's team and U.16 women's team, the Han River team also won a bronze medal in the U.16 men's team, thereby ranking second overall.
Son La and the Army team tied for third place in this tournament. Specifically, Son La women won the championship in the U.14 women's team event after the duo Quàng Thị Yến Nhi - Quàng Vị Trâm defeated Nguyễn Xuân Mai - Đặng Lâm Huỳnh Như of Kiên Giang. Meanwhile, in the final match of the tournament, the excellence of Lê Tiến Anh, Trần Hoàng Thiên Ân, Đinh Công Hậu helped the Army team win the championship in the U.16 men's team event. Host Ninh Binh also made remarkable progress in this year's tournament when the young players competed extremely hard and won the right to play in the final match in the U.16 and U.18 men's team events.
The tennis players played very hard despite the hot weather.
Mr. Doan Thanh Tung, General Secretary of the Vietnam Tennis Federation emphasized: "Although the weather in Ninh Binh is quite hot, the quality of the matches is still guaranteed, partly because the young players played with determination and dedication. The other part is due to the growth of the movement when Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Son La, Kien Giang and especially the host Ninh Binh all showed their efforts, forcing traditional units such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, the Army or Da Nang to sweat to maintain their image. The tournament is also an opportunity for us to select athletes to add to the national youth team, further promoting the development of the tennis movement nationwide."
