According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: At the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and his wife, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his wife will pay a State visit to the People's Republic of China from August 18 to 20, 2024.

Previously, on August 3, 2024, on the occasion of Politburo member and President To Lam being elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message.

In the telegram, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping affirmed that in recent years, the Communist Party of Vietnam has thoroughly implemented the spirit of the 13th National Congress Resolution, deeply promoted Party building, and achieved new achievements in promoting the construction of socialism and the cause of reform and opening up.

"I am willing to join General Secretary To Lam in leading the building of an increasingly substantial and in-depth China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future, jointly promoting traditional friendship, consolidating political trust, deepening strategic exchanges, promoting substantive cooperation, bringing more happiness to the people of the two countries, and actively contributing to the cause of peace and progress of mankind," General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping wrote, wishing General Secretary and President To Lam "new achievements in his noble position."

From December 12 to 13, 2023, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife paid a State visit to Vietnam. During this visit, both sides declared the building of a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of strategic significance, striving for the happiness of the people of the two countries, for the cause of peace and progress of mankind.

Also during this visit, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife met with Vietnamese and Chinese friendship figures and young generations.
