Energy conversion, reducing plastic usage

On April 4, in Nghe An, TH Group held a ceremony to receive the carbon neutral certificate from Control Union - an independent and prestigious international certification organization in assessing and confirming carbon neutral certificates for TH Milk Joint Stock Company and Nui Tien Pure Water Company Limited.

To achieve carbon neutrality, since 2018 TH has pioneered the first step of greenhouse gas inventory and strong green transformation actions at member businesses.

At the TH true MILK fresh milk factory operated by TH Milk Joint Stock Company, since 2023, the FO oil-fired boiler (fossil fuel) has been stopped and completely replaced with a biomass-fired boiler. Through inventory, this boiler energy conversion solution has helped the enterprise reduce emissions by more than 7,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year; saving 25 - 30 billion VND. A series of other solutions can be mentioned such as replacing the lighting system with energy-saving LED lights; installing frequency converters for cold storage compressors, replacing low-efficiency blowers with high-efficiency air blowers; resetting the compressed air pressure used on production lines; installing steam valve insulation...

Mr. Wouter Melis van Ravenhorst, Managing Director of Control Union Vietnam, shared about the appraisal process of TH's two companies.

Nui Tien Pure Water Company Limited has applied many solutions to reduce the use of plastic materials such as eliminating shrink wrap on bottle caps, reducing the weight of water bottles, reducing the thickness of bottle labels and carton wraps. This series of solutions helps the company reduce about 600 tons of plastic each year.

Nui Tien also installed solar panels and implemented many other solutions in the energy sector. In 2025, the factory prioritizes converting boiler fuel from fossil fuel to biomass fuel.

Accompanying the Government to implement the Net Zero commitment

According to Control Union, the carbon neutral data of the two companies is confirmed to be in accordance with the requirements of PAS 2060:2014. This is a technical standard developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) - an approach that is recognized, standardized and transparent worldwide.

Mr. Wouter Melis van Ravenhorst awarded carbon neutrality certificates to representatives of 2 TH enterprises.

The total amount of emissions neutralized at TH Milk Joint Stock Company is more than 26,670 tons of CO₂; at Nui Tien Pure Water Company Limited is more than 11,631 tons of CO₂. The two enterprises achieved carbon neutrality according to PAS 2060:2014 standard for the first phase from January 1 to December 31, 2023 and committed to maintaining carbon neutral status for the next phase, from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2028.

Mr. Wouter Melis van Ravenhorst, Managing Director of Control Union Vietnam, said that the process of assessing carbon neutral projects at TH Group was relatively smooth and fast because the businesses had a complete and professional data system. TH's two businesses had prepared for the carbon neutral journey early on by investing in advanced technologies from the beginning, continuously innovating, having many emission reduction initiatives and conducting greenhouse gas inventories.

Reducing the thickness of shrink film on products helps Nui Tien Pure Water Company Limited reduce 50% of raw plastic.

"TH Milk Joint Stock Company is the pioneer in Vietnam that we have certified as carbon neutral, followed by Nui Tien Pure Water Company Limited. These are the pioneers in Vietnam to date to achieve carbon neutrality," said Wouter Melis van Ravenhorst.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy, Director of Sustainable Development of TH Group, affirmed that the roadmap towards Net Zero is not a reaction to trends, but a journey that has been "tailored" systematically and proactively for many years through the sustainable development strategy that TH is steadfastly pursuing.

"The two companies of TH Group are committed to maintaining carbon neutral status until 2028 according to PAS 2060 standard, then neutral according to ISO 14068 standard. For the long-term vision, we reaffirm our commitment to respond and accompany the Vietnamese government to achieve the Net Zero goal by 2050," said Ms. Thuy.

Biomass materials are used to burn boilers instead of FO oil, helping TH Milk Joint Stock Company save 25-30 billion VND each year, reducing emissions of 7,000 tons of CO₂.

Attending and witnessing the ceremony, Mr. Pham Chi Kien, Secretary of Nghia Dan District Party Committee, affirmed that the two TH enterprises achieving carbon neutrality certification from a prestigious international organization is a special pride of the locality. Over the years, not only contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality, the energy conversion and emission reduction initiatives of these enterprises have helped many households have new livelihoods, increased income and this is the companionship of enterprises with the local government and people in building a green economy, a circular economy for sustainable development.

"From the success of the two companies of TH Group, we see many initiatives that can be replicated and will introduce them to the local business community for application and implementation," said Mr. Kien.
