Today, the Japanese parliament will also hold an extraordinary session to elect Ishiba Shigeru, who took over leadership of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on September 27, as prime minister.

Immediately after the inauguration, the new Prime Minister will announce a new Cabinet. Japanese media reported that Mr. Hayashi Yoshimasa, Mr. Ishiba's opponent in the party election, will keep his job, along with Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Saito Tetsuo, who represents the Komeito coalition in the Cabinet.

Former Defense Minister Nakatani Gen and former Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi are expected to again take up the same positions.

Emperor Naruhito will approve the new government later on October 1.

Earlier, on September 29, new LDP President Ishiba decided to dissolve the House of Representatives in October to pave the way for a snap election. He said that the general election in this country will take place on October 27.
