The Investment Project for the Construction of General Container Terminals No. 4 and No. 5 of Vsico Chan May Port is invested by Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company, with an area of ​​land and water surface of about 26.3 hectares, of which the water surface is about 5.9 hectares with a total investment cost of nearly 1,680 billion VND.

Vsico Chan May Port aims to build berths 4 and 5 with wharf infrastructure, warehouses, yards, equipment... ensuring conditions for providing cargo handling services, warehousing, cargo transportation and services related to transportation, support services...; build 2 berths for general cargo/container ships with a total length of 540 m with warehouses, yards, technical infrastructure, machinery and equipment... ensuring the ability to receive general cargo ships up to 70,000 tons, container ships up to 4,000 TEUS.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province, said that Chan May port, located in Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, has an extremely important role and position, being a national general seaport, a regional hub and a deep-water port, the end point of the East - West economic corridor..., meeting all the conditions, potentials and advantages to develop the economy, culture and society for Thua Thien - Hue province as well as the whole country.

According to Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, after more than 20 years of establishment and development, Chan May port has exceeded its design capacity by 50% (design capacity of 4 million tons/year but actual exploitation is 6 million tons/year). With an average annual growth rate of 25%, according to forecasts and planning by 2025, it is necessary to develop 5-7 wharves with a total length of up to 1,930 m, with a throughput capacity of 7.5 million tons to 13.8 million tons.

“Therefore, the investment in the construction of Wharfs No. 4 and No. 5 of Vsico Chan May Port is extremely urgent and a timely preparation step to seize opportunities and receive the increasing volume of goods transported by sea in the following years,” Mr. Hoang Hai Minh emphasized.

With the potential, advantages, and available infrastructure, after completing berths No. 4 and No. 5, the total length of the wharves will increase to 1,450 m; along with the completion of phase 2 of Chan May Port breakwater with a length of 750 m, it will ensure conditions to simultaneously receive all types of cargo ships, container ships, and large and modern passenger ships in the world, increasing the time of ship operation during the year (including the rainy season); creating new momentum and spirit for Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, contributing to the socio-economic development of Thua Thien - Hue province.

It is expected that berth 4 will be put into operation in the second quarter of 2025 and berth 5 will be put into operation in early 2026; the port throughput is expected to be 5 million tons of import and export goods per year. With container ships, the port throughput is expected to be 80,000 to 100,000 TEU per year.
