Prime Minister directs urgent investigation into cause of traffic accident on Cam Lo highway

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Official Dispatch No. 14/CD-TTg dated February 18, 2024, directing the handling of the consequences of a particularly serious traffic accident on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway in Thua Thien Hue province.

Telegrams sent to the Ministers of Public Security, Transport; Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities, stating:

At 10:00 a.m. on February 18, 2024, at Km48+200 on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway in Thua Thien Hue province, a particularly serious traffic accident occurred when a 7-seat car with license plate 36A-485.67 collided with a tractor trailer with license plate 63C-136.59; resulting in 3 deaths.

Upon receiving information about the accident, the Prime Minister directed to send his warmest regards and condolences to the families of the deceased victims; and directed the police force and leaders of Thua Thien Hue province to go to the scene to direct the handling of the accident.

To promptly remedy the consequences and prevent similar traffic accidents, the Prime Minister requests:

1. The Chairman of the People's Committee and Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of Thua Thien Hue province directs the functional agencies and units of the province to:

a) Create favorable conditions for families to quickly approach victims in the accident, carry out procedures related to deceased victims; organize visits, support and encouragement for families of victims who died in the accident.

b) The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee directly presides over the organization of a conference with relevant agencies and forces to assess the causes, deploy solutions to overcome existing problems and shortcomings, and at the same time consider and strictly handle the responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister in Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated April 19, 2023 on strengthening the work of ensuring order and safety of road traffic in the new situation and Official Dispatch No. 10/CD-TTg dated January 29, 2024 on ensuring order and safety of traffic during the 2024 Spring Festival.

2. The Ministry of Public Security directs the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police and relevant units to urgently investigate and clarify the cause of the accident and strictly handle in accordance with the law the organizations and individuals who violated the regulations, causing the above-mentioned particularly serious traffic accident; identify and clarify the direct cause of the traffic accident and related causes to serve the work of preventing similar traffic accidents in the future.

3. The Ministry of Transport directs the Vietnam Road Administration to coordinate with relevant agencies to review and strengthen the organization of reasonable traffic on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway and the traffic infrastructure system on important expressways and national highways, especially expressways with only 02 lanes and expressways without emergency lanes; pay special attention to adding guardrails, rescue and emergency structures on expressways and national highways nationwide.

4. Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities shall step up propaganda, guidance and strict implementation of the Prime Minister's directions in Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated April 19, 2023 on strengthening the work of ensuring road traffic order and safety in the new situation; proactively have drastic, timely and effective leadership and direction solutions to repel and minimize traffic accidents, ensuring the best safety of people's lives, health and property./.
