On the morning of June 4, the Director of the Nghe An Food Safety and Hygiene Department, Pham Ngoc Quy, informed that the results of the samples collected by the authorities at the kitchen of MLB Tenergy Company Limited (Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province) are currently available, suspected to be the cause of the food poisoning that caused 72 workers to be hospitalized after a meal with abdominal pain, nausea, headaches, etc. The results of the collected samples, through analysis, showed that the fried silver pomfret dish had a fairly high Histamine content, at 739mg/kg.
“The test results of the fried silver pomfret sample showed that the Histamine content was 739mg/kg. However, there are currently no specific regulations on the Histamine content in food. We are asking for opinions from the two hospitals that treated the 72 workers to have a basis for determining the cause of the incident. The Department will ask for opinions from the Food Safety Department and then announce the specific cause of poisoning or allergy...”, Mr. Pham Ngoc Quy informed.
Regarding the health of 72 workers who had to be hospitalized for treatment, the health condition has now stabilized. The workers have returned to work normally at the company.
Previously, as reported by Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper, on May 28, at the collective kitchen of MLB Tenergy Company Limited (Yen Thanh, Nghe An Province), meals were organized for workers with a total of 1,416 people divided into 2 shifts: shift 1 at 11:00 a.m. with 650 people and shift 2 at nearly 12:00 p.m. with 766 people. The dishes included rice, fried silver pomfret, boiled eggs, stir-fried squash with bean sprouts, pumpkin soup with meat and mango (dessert).
At 13:00 of the same day, the first case appeared with symptoms of red face, rapid heartbeat, headache, high blood pressure, nausea. From then until 17:00 of the same day, there were 71 more cases with symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, some cases had scattered red rash.
The patients were transferred to Bao Son General Hospital and Yen Thanh District General Hospital for emergency care and treatment. The patients were diagnosed with food poisoning and treated with oral rehydration solution, electrolyte replacement, and monitoring.
