On August 29, 1994, Nam Phuoc town was established under Decree No. 102 of the Government with a natural area of ​​about 14.5 ^km2 , a population of about 26.6 thousand people, on the basis of the former Duy An commune.

At that time, the town’s economy was still very small, most of Nam Phuoc’s people mainly lived on agriculture, and the technical infrastructure was not yet synchronized. The whole town had only two asphalt roads running horizontally and vertically, which were National Highway 1 and DT610, other traffic routes were dirt roads.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tu - former Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Phuoc town said that immediately after its establishment, the Party Congress for the 1994 - 1996 term determined to focus on exploiting all potentials of land and labor, promoting agricultural production along with developing industry - small-scale industry and services.

At the same time, gradually move towards commodity production according to a multi-sector economic structure, improve people's lives, maintain political security and social order and safety.

“Over the past 30 years, from a poor town, Nam Phuoc has grown into a young, dynamic city with rapid urbanization while ensuring the quality of life and well-being of the people,” said Mr. Tu.

Nam Phuoc town currently has 10 blocks with about 7,000 households, nearly 30,000 permanent residents and 4,000 long-term temporary residents working in the area.

Mr. Van Ba ​​Thanh - Chairman of the Town People's Committee said that in 2023, the total production value of the economy will reach 4,500 billion VND, the economic structure will be in the direction of service - industry - agriculture; in which the service industry accounts for more than 2/3 of the total production value.

Nam Phuoc town currently has most of the major financial institutions, including 12 commercial bank branches, 8 insurance branches and branches of large corporations and groups, ensuring financial resources and payment services for production and business investors and residents. Transportation, hotel and medical services are increasingly developed.

“In particular, Nam Phuoc town has always been the leading unit in the teaching and learning movement over the past 30 years of Duy Xuyen district. The scale and network of schools, classes, and childcare groups continue to expand.

In addition, the town has 1 public hospital, 1 private hospital, 2 high-tech general clinics, about 100 private clinics and grassroots health stations that have been invested in and built spaciously, meeting the medical examination and treatment needs of the people," said Mr. Thanh.

Towards a model city

The planning of Quang Nam province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, was approved by the Prime Minister, opening up many new opportunities and chances for Duy Xuyen in general and Nam Phuoc town in particular to accelerate sustainable development.

Mr. Van Ba ​​Thanh said that in the coming time, the locality will continue to build Nam Phuoc market area and Nam Phuoc market will become one of the highlights with great attraction.

In addition, the Dong Cau Chim commercial urban area and Huyen market, Xuyen Tay residential area continue to be invested. Projects such as Tay Khuong urban area, Chau Hiep resettlement area will soon be completed and put into use.

In addition, the town coordinated with the functional departments of Duy Xuyen district and investors to prepare documents to develop other urban areas in the area such as My Hoa urban area, Binh An urban area, western sports and commercial complex, 46ha southeast urban area of ​​Nam Phuoc and landscape urban area along Dao river.
