The exchange program Great Spring Victory 1975 - Glory of 50 years in Ho Chi Minh City has aroused the sense of responsibility of the young generation of Vietnam. The program took place in the days leading up to the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification (April 30).
Students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City had a special reunion, listening to the stories of 20-year-old veterans during the resistance war.
Hero of the People's Armed Forces - Lieutenant General Doan Sinh Huong (former commander of Military Region 4) proudly mentioned his achievements and the title he received at the age of 18.
He said, being able to join the army and enter the resistance war for the youth of his generation was a happy, honorable and dreamy thing.
"Today's young Vietnamese generation needs to know the path their ancestors have taken and develop the country with intelligence, study and love for their fellow countrymen. A dynamic, healthy and knowledgeable young generation is the happiness of the Fatherland," Mr. Huong said.
Also present at the exchange was Ms. Tran Hong Dung - a former student sent by the State to study in the Soviet Union before 1975 - who said she cried a lot when she saw her classmates off to the battlefield.
The teacher's words "Do you think that protecting and building the country only requires guns? You must try to study hard to replace your friends" are forever engraved in my memory.
That urged her and her friends to study harder. "Sent to the Soviet Union to study, we sometimes heard crying when friends received news of their parents or siblings' sacrifices, reminding each other to study harder to return and contribute to building the country," Ms. Dung shared.
For Ms. Dang Kim Tram, the younger sister of martyr - doctor Dang Thuy Tram, memories are the thoughts about her deceased sister. Ms. Tram said that each of you should live responsibly towards yourself, your friends around you and love everyone. Most importantly, live devotedly, be responsible for every little thing and if you decide to do something, do it to the end.
In their old age, the veterans of the past still tirelessly travel to all parts of the country to "pay tribute to fallen martyrs, wounded soldiers and heroic Vietnamese mothers", with the youthful energy of "humanistic youth" at both ends of the country.
Talking about this journey, Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Huynh Minh Phuc, said that the delegation always had representatives of different ages, but "shared the same voice of spreading spirit, grateful for the sacrifice of youth for the Fatherland".
Young people see that the elderly can still do it, so the youth must do more to show gratitude to those who came before and show gratitude for their sacrifices.
Le An Hai (Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities) said he felt more mature when thinking about the previous generation and his responsibility to society.
"You guys held guns so we could hold pens, you walked in the dark so we could see the dawn, so the younger generation has the responsibility to inherit that sacrifice by studying hard and developing the rich and strong country we have today," Hai said.
