Creating an environment for students to start a business

In recent times, the Youth Union at all levels in Can Tho City has focused on implementing many models and creative ways to promote the start-up movement among students. Through the establishment of start-up clubs, organizing seminars, sharing experiences, connecting necessary resources such as capital, knowledge and markets, etc., it has contributed to fostering the spirit of start-up, creating an environment for students' ideas to develop and become specific solutions with practical value.

Can Tho City Youth Employment Service Center provides career counseling to students of Nam Can Tho University within the framework of the Job Fair organized by the University in mid-August 2025.

According to a report by the Ministry of Education and Training , in the period 2020-2024, there are an average of 5,635 student startup projects each year. In addition, 100% of higher education and vocational education institutions have developed plans to support students in starting businesses. The report also shows that about 90% of university and college students are equipped with knowledge and startup skills before graduation.

Recently, the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Youth Union has directed the Youth Union chapters at all levels of universities and colleges to implement many solutions to support student startups, such as: hosting or supporting students to participate in startup idea competitions; regularly organizing forums to exchange with successful entrepreneurs; job fairs and creative startups, along with many startup skills training courses for students...

Typically, the Youth Union of Nam Can Tho University has established the "DNC Startup" Club, with the task of organizing training activities, sharing knowledge and startup skills for students. The Youth Union is also the focal point in the University's business relations activities, training soft skills for students; coordinating with the Student Support Center and the University's Business Cooperation, linking and cooperating with more than 200 organizations and businesses in training, internships - practical experience, implementing scientific research projects and student startups. Every year, the Youth Union coordinates to maintain the organization of job fairs, attracting 4,000-5,000 students to participate.

This year's job fair takes place in mid-August 2025, with many activities: consulting, guiding candidates to prepare job applications, office culture, professional skills; direct labor recruitment interviews... On this occasion, Nam Can Tho University signed a cooperation agreement with 6 businesses to support each other in the field of training; organize training sessions, workshops, talkshows to exchange experiences, support internship locations for students, and recruit students after graduation.

Student Truong Thi Ngoc Suong, majoring in Business Administration, shared: “By participating in the Job Fair organized by the School, I was able to meet with employers. Through that, I learned and was guided by experts and business representatives on how to improve my skills and complete my application. I hope to soon find a suitable job to apply the knowledge I have learned and at the same time accumulate more practical experience.”

At Can Tho University of Technology, the Student Union has established many academic clubs in English, Japanese, information technology, applied engineering, etc., creating an environment for students to hone their soft skills. In particular, the "CTUT Startup Idea" contest organized annually by the University, the Student Union coordinates with departments and faculties to guide students in planning, developing ideas and presentation skills. Thereby, many ideas and projects have won high prizes at city-level and regional competitions in the Mekong Delta. Notably, the project "Designing a solar drying system and applying IoT technology to monitor electricity" won second prize in the "Creative Startup Student" contest, organized by the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City in mid-June 2025. Or the coconut milk project "Cocovimilk" won the encouragement prize in the contest "Searching for ideas and youth startup projects in Can Tho 2024" organized by Can Tho City Youth Union and the encouragement prize in the contest "Student startup ideas in the Mekong Delta region", organized by the Network to support students and students to start businesses in the Mekong Delta region in 2024.

The city's Youth Union at all levels also promoted propaganda activities, signed cooperation programs with many businesses and investment funds, supported specialized training, and provided startup consulting, aiming to perfect the startup ecosystem, helping students feel confident in the process of starting a business and establishing a career.

In May 2025, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union issued a plan to implement activities to support young people starting businesses in 2025. Accordingly, it strives for 100% of the Youth Unions and Student Associations of universities and colleges to organize propaganda activities and train students in entrepreneurial skills; support at least 2,000 young people to start businesses, including 100 students, 250 young people to start innovative businesses. Each provincial and municipal Youth Union supports the establishment and development of at least 1 school-level innovative business club. The Central Committee of the Youth Union recommends that provincial and municipal Youth Unions coordinate with the Department of Education and Training, universities and colleges to develop training programs for startups and innovation in schools.
