After 50 years of liberation, especially 28 years since becoming a centrally-governed city (January 1, 1997), Da Nang has made impressive breakthroughs, rising to become the leading urban area of the Central region.
When becoming a centrally-governed city, starting the process of constructing and building an urban area worthy of being the economic and social center of the region, Da Nang leaders decided to make a breakthrough by renovating the urban area and completing the traffic infrastructure.
To have capital for implementation, the city government has promoted internal strength through creative and breakthrough policies such as exploiting land funds to create capital for infrastructure construction, exchanging land for infrastructure, the State and the people working together... which have been supported and accompanied by the majority of the city's people.
The first breakthrough was the Han River Bridge, which began construction in 1998 and was inaugurated on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Da Nang Liberation Day (March 29, 2000).
Next, East-West Road (now Nguyen Van Linh), North-South Road (now Ham Nghi), Bach Dang Dong Road (now Tran Hung Dao) were opened..., more than 2,000 roads were opened, along with hundreds of new, spacious and modern residential areas.
In particular, Da Nang has renovated the urban area with the Han River flowing in the middle and two sea-facing fronts, exploiting the potential of the marine economy reasonably and effectively; connecting increasingly modern infrastructure, strongly attracting domestic and foreign investors.
With the efforts of the entire political system, business community and people, Da Nang is affirming its brand as a leading tourist destination in the region and the world, having been honored twice by the World Tourism Organization (WTA) as “Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination” in 2016 and 2022. Notably, 2024 is the 5th consecutive year that Da Nang has won the Vietnam Smart City award.
In 2024, Da Nang's economic scale will reach more than 151,307 billion VND, expanding by more than 17,000 billion VND compared to 2023; ranking 17/63 localities and leading the provinces in the South Central Coast region.
Da Nang's economic structure has shifted towards strong development of the service sector (accounting for more than 71%) and industry (18.5%), gradually reducing the agriculture - forestry - fishery sector (1.78%). Total budget revenue in 2024 will reach VND 26,800 billion, an increase of 23 times compared to 1997; average income in 2024 will reach USD 4,179/person, an increase of 9.95 times compared to 1997.
Notably, the Central Government's permission for Da Nang to pilot the construction of a free trade zone and a regional financial center will be a historic opportunity in the city's development.
In the era of national growth, the City Party Executive Committee has identified the theme for 2025: The year of focusing on streamlining the apparatus with cutting administrative procedures, effectively implementing urban government organization and specific mechanisms and policies to strongly promote economic growth...
