Chili powder has many health benefits.

Prevent cancer

Paprika contains several carotenoid compounds, including beta carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin, all of which are thought to reduce the risk of cancer. This is because these compounds act to fight oxidative stress – which can lead to cell and tissue damage.

A previous study also found that women with the highest levels of beta carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and total carotenoids in their blood had a 25-35% lower risk of breast cancer, according to Express .

Research also revealed that capsaicin found in chili powder can inhibit the growth and survival of cancer cells by affecting the expression of certain genes.

Improve cholesterol levels, fight heart disease

When it comes to keeping your heart and circulatory system healthy, keeping cholesterol levels low is essential.

Cholesterol is a fat found in the blood that can build up in blood vessels and cause blockages.

Studies have found that capsanthin — a carotenoid (plant chemical) in paprika — may increase levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL).

A 2-week study found that mice fed a diet containing paprika and capsanthin had significantly increased HDL levels, compared to the control group.

Carotenoids in paprika may also help lower “bad” (LDL) and total cholesterol levels.

A 12-week study in 100 healthy adults also found that those who took a supplement containing 9 mg of paprika carotenoids per day had significantly lower LDL and total cholesterol levels.

Prevent arthritis

Capsaicin in paprika may help prevent or ease arthritis symptoms.

This is because it binds to receptors on nerve cells to reduce inflammation and pain. Experts explain that this can not only help arthritis patients but also help reduce nerve damage and digestive problems.

Paprika is also high in vitamin A, which is important for immune health, vision, fertility and cell growth.

And paprika is also rich in iron and vitamin E, which have antioxidant effects, support skin health and prevent anemia.
