Ta Ngoc Tuong broke the national record

At the Speed Cup held in Ho Chi Minh City in April, Ta Ngoc Tuong ( Phu Tho ) caused a surprise when he won the 400m event. At that time, he defeated veteran Tran Dinh Son, who had won many SEA Games gold medals.

This time at the National Championship, Ta Ngoc Tuong once again defeated his senior. In the 400m final of the 2025 National Athletics Championship, he finished first with a time of 45.59 seconds, breaking the national record.

The old record belonged to Quach Cong Lich with a time of 45.99 seconds, set in 2015. In an interview with Tuoi Tre newspaper at the Speed Cup in April, Ta Ngoc Tuong shared his goal of breaking the national record.

However, at that time he determined that this was a long-term thing, not thinking that he would soon achieve this achievement just 4 months later.

Born in 2005, Ta Ngoc Tuong will be the next name to watch in Vietnamese athletics and may be able to attend the SEA Games later this year.

Second place in the men's 400m final was Le Ngoc Phuc ( Ha Tinh ) and third place was Vu Ngoc Khanh (Hung Yen).

Meanwhile, two veteran runners of Vietnamese athletics, Tran Nhat Hoang ( Khanh Hoa ) and Tran Dinh Son (Ha Tinh), did not have good performance and only finished 4th and 5th respectively.

In the women's 400m event, Vietnam's number one runner Hoang Thi Minh Hanh (Hanoi) easily won the gold medal with a time of 52.55 seconds. Nguyen Thi Hang (Hanoi) and Nguyen Thi Ngoc (Ha Tinh) won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Quach Thi Lan (Thanh Hoa) has not been in good form since returning from a doping ban, and only finished 5th in the final run.

Nhi Yen has not been able to overthrow Ha Thi Thu.

Also on the afternoon of August 9, two other events worth watching at the 2025 National Athletics Championship were the men's 100m and women's 100m. In the men's 100m final, runner Nguyen Van Quyet (Hanoi) born in 2003 unexpectedly won first place with a time of 10.58 seconds.

Ngan Ngoc Nghia (People's Public Security) only finished in second place with a time of 10.63 seconds. His teammate Truong Van Hieu won the bronze medal with a time of 10.69 seconds.

In the women's 100m event, Tran Thi Nhi Yen (Tay Ninh) was expected to overthrow her senior Ha Thi Thu (HCMC). However, in the end, the older athlete was the one to take first place with a time of 11.68 seconds. Nhi Yen finished second with a time of 11.80 seconds.

Third place was Hoang Du Y of the Army with 11.81 seconds.
