The terrible attraction of Helldivers 2 caused the server to 'crash'

According to Neowin , this February, Helldivers 2 is becoming a 'phenomenon' in the gaming world. The sci-fi third-person shooter game by developer Arrowhead and publisher PlayStation Studios is increasingly 'hot' on both PC and PlayStation 5, attracting more and more players to participate.

On Steam, Helldivers 2 hit a record for highest concurrent players on February 17 with 333,827 players. It remains the best-selling game on Steam at $39.99, with the $59.99 premium version of Super Citizen even coming in third.

Coupled with the massive player base, Helldivers 2 is facing server overload, suggesting that Arrowhead may not have anticipated the game's popularity. The developer announced on the game's official Discord channel that the surge in online players has caused 'some mission rewards to fail, some players to be kicked off the ship or logged out'.

While the development team says it's working on fixing these issues, it also admits it's "having difficulty" scaling its servers to handle the massive player count. "We've been forced to limit the number of concurrent players to around 450,000 to improve server stability," the team said. "We'll continue to work with our partners to raise this limit. If you're experiencing issues with your progress, please restart the game to get everything back in sync. Thank you for your patience."
