Sinner leaves Alcaraz behind in points ahead of 2025 Cincinnati Open final

According to the ATP rankings released on August 18, Jannik Sinner leads with 12,030 points, while Carlos Alcaraz is second with 8,590 points. The next positions belong to Zverev (6,380 points), Taylor Fritz (5,525 points), Jack Draper (4,650 points), Ben Shelton (4,320 points) and Novak Djokovic (4,130 points).

Jannik Sinner is the current Cincinnati Open and US Open champion. The Italian has 2,500 points to defend in these two major tournaments in the US and is under a lot of pressure.

Carlos Alcaraz is more relaxed, he only has 60 points to defend due to early defeats at the Cincinnati Open and the US Open last year. Therefore, if he goes far in the above two tournaments, the Spanish star can narrow the gap with Sinner.

Sinner and Alcaraz will face each other in the final of the Cincinnati Open 2025 at 2:00 a.m. on August 19 in the US. Sinner's path to the final is easier as he does not face a very strong opponent, while Alcaraz has to overcome many strong opponents such as Rublev (quarterfinals) and Zverev (semifinals).

These two players have a chance to face each other in the finals this year. Alcaraz defeated the Italian player 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 to win the 2025 Roland Garros championship, while Sinner defeated the Spanish star 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the 2025 Wimbledon final.

After the Cincinnati Open 2025, players will have a week to prepare for the US Open 2025 starting in New York (USA) on August 24. Sinner and Alcaraz continue to be strong candidates for the championship alongside Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz.
