The most modern 'Super Robot' Da Vinci Xi in Southeast Asia is available in Ho Chi Minh City

(PLVN) - The 4th generation Da Vinci Xi robot - the most modern in Southeast Asia - was officially deployed at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national reunification.

Dubbed as a “Super Robot”, Da Vinci Xi possesses superior technology compared to previous generations of Da Vinci Robots, and can support more than 120 types of complex surgeries in many specialties such as: urology - nephrology, head and neck, thoracic - cardiovascular, general surgery, gynecology... creating a “revolution” in minimally invasive surgery.

“Da Vinci Xi is not only a support tool, but also an extended arm of the doctor, helping to perform surgeries that were once considered impossible, bringing safe and effective results and quick recovery” - Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Le Chuyen, Director of the Center for Urology - Nephrology - Andrology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, who has performed more than 200 surgeries using the Da Vinci Robot shared.

Modern technology, expanding surgical limits

The distinctive difference of the Da Vinci Xi Robot is the integrated touch screen that helps the doctor select the necessary surgical area and the optimal approach, helping to personalize each surgery. Modern software automatically calibrates the image, supports instrument navigation, and limits damage to healthy tissue. The voice guidance feature helps the doctor operate easily, especially in complex cases.

The robot arm is designed to be slim, the distance between the arms is only 6cm - 2cm smaller than the previous generation, suitable for Vietnamese body shape, allowing surgeons to place trocars in a straight line instead of fanning, making it easy to operate, minimizing the risk of collision, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues and blood vessels. Any arm of the robot can be equipped with a camera, allowing the doctor to freely change the viewing angle in the surgical area, helping to improve accuracy and flexibility in surgical operations.

Each arm can rotate 540 degrees thanks to human wrist simulation technology, helping doctors easily operate in deep, narrow and difficult-to-reach surgical areas, performing sophisticated techniques that are difficult to achieve with traditional endoscopy or old-generation robots.

Da Vinci Xi is also the first generation of Da Vinci Robots to integrate a welding and hemostasis handle, allowing tissue resection and immediate hemostasis without changing instruments, minimizing blood loss. This technology is especially beneficial for elderly patients, patients with complex underlying diseases or those requiring intervention in difficult locations, thanks to its ability to reduce bleeding, postoperative pain and recovery time.

The Da Vinci Xi robot also provides superior precision thanks to the surgeon operating through the console, observing the entire surgical field through a high-resolution 3D screen. The console also allows the surgeon to adjust the viewing angle, magnification and take advantage of the system's hand vibration filtering capabilities, helping to perform stable and highly accurate surgical operations, while minimizing fatigue during prolonged surgeries.

Access to world-leading medical technology right in Vietnam

In just a short time of operation, the team of doctors at Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, has applied the "Super Robot" Da Vinci Xi in many complex surgeries.

A typical case is the surgery to remove a suspected cancerous kidney tumor for patient D.QT (75 years old, in Hau Giang). Mr. T was diagnosed with a tumor located close to the renal vein, a complex location that can easily cause bleeding and damage healthy tissue. He also has a history of multiple surgeries (adrenal gland tumor, colon polyp removal), and has an intestinal malrotation with the entire intestine located above the liver, covering the diaphragm.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Le Chuyen, who directly controlled the robot during the surgery, said that without the support of the "Super Robot", creating a retroperitoneal cavity to access the tumor would be almost impossible. Mr. T was assisted by the robot in performing surgery to completely remove the tumor, preserving maximum kidney function. Just one day later, he was able to sit up and walk gently, with a small incision, little pain, and good recovery.

In another case, Mr. H (66 years old) was diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Duc, Head of the Department of Urology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, used the Da Vinci Xi Robot to completely remove the malignant tumor with millimeter precision, eliminating the cancer at the root, preserving maximum physiological function for the patient and limiting complications. Mr. H recovered quickly, after only 48 hours he was able to return to almost normal activities.

Previously, Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City was approved by the Ministry of Health for 59 robotic surgery categories in major specialties. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quang Binh, Professional Director of Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, commented that the deployment of the Da Vinci Xi Robot not only improves the quality of treatment but also affirms the position of Vietnamese healthcare on the world map.

“We aim to build a modern surgical system where every operating room has a robot and every doctor is proficient in this technology, comparable to countries with advanced medicine such as the US, Japan, and Korea,” said Associate Professor Tran Quang Binh.

With the Da Vinci Xi Robot system at Tam Anh General Hospital, patients in Vietnam now have the opportunity to access advanced surgical methods right in the country, instead of having to go abroad at high costs.
