From the bridges connecting the two banks of the wide river to the boulevards crossing the new land, Thanh Hoa is “drawing” a new development map every day with projects of great significance. The “new breath” on key public investment projects continues to spread, opening up a large connecting space between dynamic economic regions, facilitating traffic, trade and stimulating investment attraction.
Road connecting road, future bridge
Joy, excitement and pride in the changes of their homeland are the feelings and pride of the people of Thieu Quang commune (Thieu Hoa) when Xuan Quang bridge was inaugurated in the first days of spring this year as "promised". For generations, the mother river - Ma Giang has been the natural boundary between Thieu Quang commune (Thieu Hoa) on the right bank and Hoang Hoa district. Therefore, from Hoang Hoa district, to "cross" Thieu Quang land, both people and vehicles must wobble across the pontoon bridge or go around Thieu Thinh to Thieu Quang. That "discrepancy" has been "solved" by the existence of the bridge named "Xuan Quang" containing the belief, determination and strategic vision of the province.
Xuan Quang Bridge is a part of the project connecting National Highway 1A with National Highway 45 from Hoang Xuan Commune (Hoang Hoa) to Thieu Long Commune (Thieu Hoa); in which the bridge has a total investment of 655 billion VND, with a length of 1,042m, 25 spans. According to the strategic assessment of the province and functional agencies, the investment in the construction of Xuan Quang Bridge not only has the meaning of people's livelihood - connecting the joy of residents on both banks of the Ma River, but also shortens the travel time of people in the northeastern districts of Thanh Hoa province such as Hoang Hoa, Nga Son, Hau Loc... with the western districts of the province. In particular, this is an important "push" to form and develop modern industrial parks in the region, with the promotion of trade connections between National Highway 1A, National Highway 45 and the North-South Expressway.
Along with the project of connecting National Highway 1A with National Highway 45 from Hoang Xuan commune (Hoang Hoa) to Thieu Long commune (Thieu Hoa) with the highlight of Xuan Quang bridge, the trillion-dollar project - Van Thien road to Ben En also officially opened for technical traffic this spring. With a total investment of 1,181 billion VND, Van Thien road to Ben En has a scale of investment in building 12.19km of new road ensuring a scale of 4 lanes. This is a project that promises to bring prosperity to the eco-tourism area of Ben En National Park (Nhu Thanh), with the determination to attract "big" investors.
The North-South railway overpass construction site is being constructed in "3 shifts, 4 shifts" to be inaugurated on National Day, September 2 this year.
According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Mai Xuan Liem at the technical opening ceremony of this project, this will be the route connecting the North-South expressway with Ben En National Park and a new route connecting to the center of Ben Sung town when put into operation, creating conditions to expand development space to the Southwest for Nong Cong and Nhu Thanh districts; at the same time effectively exploiting the potential and advantages of tourism, ecology, resorts and entertainment services of Ben En National Park.
From the direction and political determination of the province, in 2024, Thanh Hoa City will start construction of 4 key projects with a total investment of more than 2,000 billion VND: North-South railway overpass project; Le Loi Avenue expansion project... These projects are all highlights in the strategy to promote local socio-economic development.
According to the Thanh Hoa City Construction Investment Management Board, the North-South railway overpass project and the two-way road on the East-West Highway have a total investment of more than 647 billion VND. The investment objective is to complete the traffic system according to the approved planning, creating architectural highlights in the urban area; synchronously connecting traffic infrastructure, urban technical infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for people to travel; reducing traffic congestion on National Highway 47 through the North-South railway. At the same time, connecting with the eastern and western urban areas with the city center; serving the economic, cultural and social development of Thanh Hoa City.
In this project, the North-South railway overpass and the roads at both ends of the bridge have a total length of 800m. According to the design, the bridge is decorated with art to create a highlight for the urban space of Thanh Hoa City. Mr. Thai Hoai Ha, commander of the construction site of the North-South railway overpass, shared: “As of mid-April 2025, the construction unit has completed more than 50% of the project volume. Currently, the construction unit is focusing on human resources and materials to construct "3 shifts, 4 teams" with an urgent, quality, and safe atmosphere, ensuring that the project will be technically opened to traffic on the occasion of National Day, September 2, 2025".
With the viewpoint of “infrastructure is one step ahead”, many key public investment projects with inter-regional connectivity value have been affirming their vital role. From the “road connecting two ports” Nghi Son - Sao Vang to the East-West Highway 4 to Nghi Son Port, the road connecting Sam Son City with Nghi Son Economic Zone... being completed and put into operation is not only a highlight of infrastructure, it is also the foundation, the “impulse” for the development, inter-regional connectivity and important economic axes of the province.
New "breath" from major projects taking shape
The momentum of infrastructure investment in Thanh Hoa continues to be strengthened, with a series of key public investment projects newly started and under urgent construction. The large construction sites that are moving day and night not only demonstrate the province's high political determination, but also "light up" expectations for new breakthroughs in the near future!
On April 19, another trillion-dollar project - Nam Song Ma Avenue Phase 2 officially started construction. This is one of 80 key projects across the three regions of the country that were simultaneously started to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). "The country is full of joy" - the groundbreaking ceremony has aroused the pride, belief and expectation of millions of Vietnamese hearts.
It is known that Nam Song Ma Avenue Phase 2, from Quang Hung Ward to the end of Quang Tam Ward, is a Group B, Level II traffic project, invested by Thanh Hoa City Construction Investment Project Management Board with a total investment of more than 1,442 billion VND. The project has a starting point at Km5+792.36 in Quang Hung Ward, an end point at Km11+427.53 in Quang Tam Ward, a length of more than 5.6km including the following items: Road surface, sidewalk, electricity system, drainage system, water supply, tunnel, trees, grass and 1 bridge over Thong Nhat River..., expected to be completed in October 2026.
The second phase of the Nam Song Ma Boulevard has just started construction along with 80 key projects nationwide on the occasion of "The Country is Full of Joy".
The route will effectively connect with the coastal road and inter-regional traffic axes, meeting the needs of travel and freight transport, while expanding the space for urban development. The project also has strategic significance, along with other major projects such as the North-South railway overpass; the extended Le Loi Avenue and the East-West Avenue being implemented, creating a closed traffic system, connecting from West to East, from Thanh Hoa City to Sam Son City; creating momentum for urban development, increasing the ability to attract investment, promoting the socio-economic development of the province.
Chairman of Thanh Hoa City People's Committee Le Trong Thu said: "Given the importance of the project, right after the groundbreaking ceremony, based on the approved project progress, we assigned the Thanh Hoa City Construction Investment Management Board to monitor and closely follow the construction site, promptly remove obstacles regarding the site and construction techniques. The city will also regularly update the situation, instruct the Construction Investment Project Management Board to have a plan for close direction and management. In particular, the preparation of capital sources will be prioritized for timely handling so that the contractor can smoothly carry out the construction."
In 2025, the province's state budget public investment plan is allocated more than 14,000 billion VND. This is a prerequisite resource to soon put projects that have started construction into operation and use and start more strategic projects. In the field of public investment this year, there are 13 large and key public investment projects being invested in. Many projects have inter-regional connectivity significance such as: Investment project to build the coastal road section Nga Son - Hoang Hoa; the road connecting the North - South expressway to National Highway 1A to Nghi Son Port; upgrading and expanding Le Loi Avenue from Phu Son intersection to Dong bridge, Thanh Hoa city; traffic route from Bim Son Industrial Park to the coastal road section Nga Son Hoang Hoa; Road connecting Thanh Hoa City with Tho Xuan Airport, from No Hen Bridge to Provincial Road 514... As of April 16, 2025, the whole province has disbursed 2,895 billion VND, equal to 20.4% of the detailed capital plan. Units and localities are actively implementing synchronous solutions to ensure the disbursement progress set out in the spirit of Directive No. 02/CT-UBND, dated January 17, 2025 of the Provincial People's Committee Chairman.
Each bridge, each new road extension, each large infrastructure project being formed not only solves the traffic problem, but also opens up opportunities for economic development, urbanization and international integration for Thanh Hoa. On the newly completed traffic axes, there are new industrial parks, trillion-dollar mega-projects, and high-tech factories. With the infrastructure momentum and open investment environment, Thanh Hoa is entering the stage of welcoming a wave of large-scale investment, opening up expectations for a strong breakthrough!
