Samsung Electronics Co. has consolidated its leading position in the South Korean smartphone market, capturing more than 80% of the market share, according to data released by market research firm Counterpoint Research on August 14.
Samsung Electronics accounted for 82% of smartphone sales in the January-July period, up 4 percentage points from the same period last year. Apple Inc. came in a distant second with 18%.
Counterpoint Research attributed Samsung's market share gains to steady sales of its flagship Galaxy S25 models and strong demand for its Z Fold 7 foldable smartphone, which was launched last month.
However, Counterpoint Research noted that the upcoming launch of Apple's new iPhone 17 series smartphones could threaten Samsung's position in the second half of the year./.
