On the afternoon of August 20, the working delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City continued to have a working session with the People's Committee of Binh Thanh District on preparations for the new school year 2024-2025.
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Tran Anh Kiet, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Thanh District, said that in the 2023-2024 school year, the rate of preschool children attending 2 sessions/day in the whole district is 100%, with primary school being 97.8% and secondary school being 93.8%.
The locality aims to have 100% of primary and secondary school students studying two sessions per day by the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
Currently, the entire district is still short of 16 administrators and 187 teachers at all levels. In addition, at the primary level, 66.1% of teachers and at the secondary level, 60% of teachers have not attended training to upgrade their qualifications according to regulations.
The Department of Education and Training assigned principals of educational institutions to proactively review and compile statistics on the qualifications of human resources, paying special attention to the planning resources at the unit to propose solutions and plans to ensure human resources for operations and teaching.
In preparation for the new school year, Binh Thanh District has completed the construction of the new 25C Kindergarten, and is expected to complete 6 other school repair and renovation projects in 2025.
Also in 2025, the locality will start construction of 6 new and renovated school projects, and is expected to start construction of 2 more school construction projects in 2026.
As of July 2024, the entire district has achieved a rate of 298.9 classrooms/10,000 school-age population (from 3-18 years old), striving to complete the target of 300 classrooms/10,000 population by 2025.
"The progress of school construction has not yet met the approved school network plan due to difficulties in procedures, capital, construction criteria, land exchange... Currently, in the district, there is still 1 ward without a primary school, 7 wards without a secondary school, leading to the situation where students have to go to school far away," a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Thanh District stated the reality.
From that reality, the locality proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee direct departments and branches to support localities in removing difficulties and obstacles to speed up the implementation of school construction investment projects to meet the development of residential areas.
Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, acknowledged the difficulties and obstacles that the locality is facing. In the future, the education sector needs to continue to strengthen propaganda work to create consensus with parents, thereby increasing investment resources for education.
Particularly for teacher recruitment, localities need to proactively implement the recruitment process early to have enough teachers for the new school year, limiting the situation where recruitment in the new school year makes it difficult for schools to find guest teachers to meet the teaching needs of the unit.
