Quang Ngai has nearly 120 unlicensed independent preschools.

After the death of a 14-month-old boy due to abuse at the Nhu Y private daycare facility, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province requested a review of independent preschools and discovered that many facilities were not licensed.

Following the direction of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with the People's Committees of communes and wards to urgently review and count all independent childcare groups, childcare centers, private kindergartens and preschools.

Through review, the whole province has over 10,000 children aged 3 to 36 months studying at over 430 independent preschools . Of these, over 310 facilities have been licensed, nearly 120 facilities have not been licensed and many of these facilities are operating in defiance of regulations.

Currently, the number of unlicensed private childcare facilities that are still operating is highest in Cam Thanh, Truong Quang Trong, and Nghia Lo wards.

In Cam Thanh ward alone, nearly 70% of the facilities are unlicensed and over 52% of these facilities do not ensure conditions in terms of facilities and staff to care for and nurture children.

According to the People's Committee of Cam Thanh Ward, the locality has requested to stop or suspend the operation of facilities that are not licensed or have been licensed but do not comply with the provisions of the law. At the same time, the People's Committee of the Ward will direct the Public Service Center and the heads of residential groups to propagate to local people to grasp the licensed and unlicensed preschool facilities so that people can choose.

Although the commune authorities have been delegated the responsibility to license preschools, many places are still confused about management, while spontaneous childcare centers continue to spring up, posing potential safety risks for children.
