Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea stressed that the UN Charter is the "backbone" of the global order.
“Cambodia cannot emphasize enough the urgency of all of us working together to face these enormous challenges,” he said.
Regarding the conflict in the Middle East, Cambodia reaffirms its long-standing support for the two-state solution in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
Also at the event, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan emphasized the need to strengthen the UN's role in promoting peace and security, especially in conflict prevention diplomacy and reconciliation.
Deeply concerned about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he stressed the need for safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all civilians in need, and called for a ceasefire and the immediate, unconditional release and safety of all hostages.
China also said it was "extremely concerned" and "closely following" the rising tensions in the Middle East, after Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in air strikes in Lebanon.
"China is closely following this incident and is extremely concerned about the escalation of tensions in the region," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement, calling on "all parties, especially Israel, to take immediate steps to cool down the situation."
On the same day, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty said that the UN's top priority in Gaza is to immediately stop bloodshed and all efforts to solve the Palestinian issue by forcing people to relocate.
