Recently, behind-the-scenes images from the movie Getting Rich with Ghosts Part 2 attracted attention when the audience saw artist Phuoc Sang return to the set after his third stroke in March 2024.

The 56-year-old artist's appearance changed dramatically. He was thin and weak, and was transported by motorbike to the filming location. Phuoc Sang had difficulty walking, and needed someone to support him when going up and down the steps or performing simple standing and sitting movements. After completing a short scene, the artist was sweating all over his back, and someone had to stand behind him and fan him. However, the artist's spirit when meeting friends and colleagues was quite cheerful and excited.

Director Trung Lun shared a photo of Phuoc Sang on set:

Director Trung Lun shared with VietNamNet the reason for inviting Phuoc Sang back to the film set and shared private stories about Phuoc Sang.

- What made you decide to invite Phuoc Sang to participate in the project "Getting Rich with Ghosts 2" despite knowing his health condition?

When inviting Mr. Phuoc Sang, the first thing I wanted was for us to meet each other on set and meet our colleagues again.

When I first started my career, Sang gave me a chance. Now seeing him looking sad and staying at home all the time, I want to take him out to be happier.

The happiness of an artist is to stand in front of the camera, stand on stage, meet colleagues and hold the script. I cannot help Mr. Sang much, I can only give him a little joy.

- Can you share about Phuoc Sang's condition when he returned to the set? How did the crew support him to complete the role?

I know Phuoc Sang has difficulty moving around. When I invited him to participate, I requested that he have someone to support and take good care of him.

Normally each scene has a specific schedule, but in Sang's case, I was mentally prepared in advance.

When Sang arrived at the set, I discovered that his memory had declined compared to before. When he could not remember many lines, Hoai Linh and I patiently guided him sentence by sentence so that he could best express his character. We always created a comfortable atmosphere for him throughout the filming process.

- Through the behind-the-scenes video, the audience saw Phuoc Sang moving with difficulty and needing someone to help him. Are you worried that inviting an artist who is in the process of recovering to participate in a film will be risky?

When I invited Sang, I was also worried that it might affect the filming progress. But I clearly stated that the main purpose was to make him happy.

Actually, 4 years ago, Sang played a small role in my TV series even though he was still in poor health. At that time, his memory was also poor, but he didn't think it would decline as much as it does now.

With the TV series, I was patient with Sang. Now with the movie, I have enough time to support him more. This is something I completely control.

- What did Phuoc Sang tell you about his career and future plans?

Sang taught me many things, but there is one saying that I will always remember. When he was seriously ill, I accidentally said: "Sang, I calculate like this". Sang immediately interrupted: "Don't calculate! No one can calculate like Phuoc Sang. And now, Phuoc Sang has to lie here". He emphasized: "Nothing can be calculated like God's calculation". That is the profound lesson he gave me.

Four years ago, while filming a TV series, Sang shared that he wanted to return to making movies. I advised him: "Making movies has changed a lot nowadays. You haven't been exposed to modern cinema for a long time, it will create stress and affect your health. I think it's fun for you to occasionally participate in acting."

I also advise you not to think about being a show producer anymore because there is no job as hard as this one. Being a show producer is truly "the job of being a daughter-in-law in a family", not an actor.

But at that time, Sang was still enthusiastic and said he still wanted to plan to do it. He also gave me scripts and ideas. That was Sang's love for the profession, but to carry it out was a problem.

After that, Mr. Sang had another stroke, so it will probably be very difficult to do those things. Mr. Sang is always a positive person, never negative. People in the profession all love him very much. Now we can only wish Mr. Sang good health.

Actor, director, producer Phuoc Sang, born in 1969, is one of the familiar faces of Vietnamese cinema. He has participated in the films: When men get pregnant, Luc Van Tien, Xich Lo, Truong Ba's Soul, Butcher's skin...

His career was severely affected by health problems, especially three strokes in the past 15 years. This event left serious consequences. He lost 30kg, was emaciated, had a weak leg, a drooping right eye, significant memory loss and needed assistance when moving.

How is Phuoc Sang's health now after the stroke? After the emergency stroke, Phuoc Sang is now past the dangerous stage and recovering well. He is expected to be discharged tomorrow.
