On December 12, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan began a state visit to Vietnam from December 12-13.

The visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan took place at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife. This is the second time that Madam Peng Liyuan has come to Vietnam as the wife of the General Secretary and President of China, after the state visit to Vietnam of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan in November 2015.

Professor Peng Liyuan, born in 1962, is a Major General of the People's Liberation Army of China, Director of the Academy of Military Arts, and the wife of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping. Professor Peng Liyuan is a famous Chinese soprano singer, a typical representative and the first master of contemporary Chinese folk music. Professor Peng Liyuan is the Goodwill Ambassador of the World Health Organization (WHO) for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS prevention, and the Special Ambassador of UNESCO for the education of women and girls. As the wife of the General Secretary and President of China, Professor Peng Liyuan always attracts attention with her elegant and luxurious fashion sense in public appearances.
