At the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith informed each other about the situation of each Party and each country, including Party building and socio-economic development; discussed the world and regional situations and issues of mutual concern; assessed the results of cooperation between the two Parties and two countries in recent times; and agreed on major orientations for Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the coming time. The two leaders expressed their joy and highly appreciated the increasingly deep, substantive and effective development of Vietnam-Laos cooperation in all fields, including continued strengthening of political relations; effective promotion of defense-security cooperation; Economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological cooperation has seen positive changes. The two leaders congratulated the important and comprehensive achievements that the people of the two countries have achieved in the cause of national construction and development, as well as in implementing the Resolution of the Congress of each Party; thanked each other for their wholehearted support and assistance in the past time. The two sides emphasized the historical tradition of close ties and mutual assistance; affirmed that the Vietnam-Laos relationship is a priceless asset of the two peoples, an objective necessity, a historical law and the greatest source of strength of the two Parties and two countries that needs to be promoted and passed on to future generations.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone highly appreciated the results of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, culture, education, science-technology, defense-security; at the same time, they proposed a number of specific cooperation directions between the two countries in the coming time. The two sides agreed that in the current situation, the two Parties and two countries need to continue to promote good traditions, strengthen solidarity, closely coordinate and support each other, continue to deepen political relations, which is the core of the overall orientation of the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries; promote the pillars of cooperation in defense-security and foreign affairs; create breakthroughs in economic cooperation; promote cooperation in education, culture, science-technology and people-to-people exchange on the basis of promoting the potential and strengths of each country. In addition, focus on cooperation between Party committees, ministries, branches of the Government, agencies of the National Assembly, the Front, mass organizations, people's organizations and localities of the two countries. The two sides affirmed the need to promote the effectiveness of existing mechanisms, continue to innovate and improve the effectiveness of cooperation in all fields, and at the same time build new appropriate mechanisms to further strengthen the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, for the practical interests of the people of each country, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
