On December 18 in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of National Defense (Propaganda Department - General Department of Politics) coordinated with Vietnam Post Corporation to organize a special issuance of the stamp set "Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th Anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024)."
On December 22, 1944, in Tran Hung Dao forest (now Tam Kim commune, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province), the "Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army" (the predecessor of today's Vietnam People's Army) was established under the Directive of Leader Ho Chi Minh.
After 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the Vietnam People's Army has excellently fulfilled its mission of fighting for national liberation, unifying the country, and firmly protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
Worthy of President Ho Chi Minh's praise and also the glorious tradition of the Vietnam People's Army: "Our army is loyal to the Party, filial to the people, ready to fight and sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for socialism, completing any mission, overcoming any difficulty, defeating any enemy."
On October 17, 1989, the Central Party Secretariat (Term VI) issued Directive No. 381-CT/TU, taking the Founding Day of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22) as the National Defense Day - a day to gather the strength of the entire nation to protect the Fatherland.
The stamp set "Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th Anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024)" includes 04 designs designed in a concise graphic style, with consistent content and images, arranged in chronological order. The stamp set represents the history and heroic tradition of the Vietnam People's Army in the struggle for national independence and the modernization of the Vietnam People's Army. The logo commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army is arranged throughout the stamp designs.
Model 4-1: From the people, fighting for the people
The stamp depicts the image of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, established with 34 members, who, together with local armed forces and people, carried out the General Uprising to seize power in the August Revolution of 1945, gaining national independence and establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. “Born from the people, fighting for the people” is the nature and development law of the Vietnam People's Army.
Model 4-2: Determined to fight, determined to win
Determination to fight and victory is a fundamental characteristic of the Vietnam People's Army. The prominent image on the stamp is the Liberation Army soldiers and their comrades advancing, ready to brave the rain of bombs and bullets to fight and win against the enemy.
The stamp design represents the strength, fierce fighting spirit; the offensive stance, the determination to win of the loyal soldiers for the Fatherland. The stamp background shows the resounding victories of the Vietnam People's Army, from the Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954 to the Great Spring Victory in 1975 and the National Reunification Train arranged in historical order.
Form 4-3: Ready to fight to protect the Fatherland
The Vietnam People's Army is always ready to fight, train, and produce. Our army constantly researches and manufactures modern weapons and equipment.
The stamp depicts the image of three soldiers representing the Army, Navy, and Air Defense - Air Force, holding their guns firmly, protecting every inch of land, sea, island, continental shelf, and airspace of the Fatherland.
The images below complement the modernization idea of the Vietnam People’s Army with submarines, warships, radars, aircraft; the image of the United Nations peacekeeping force – representing the foreign policy and international integration. In addition, economic production is also described by the development of the green economy bringing many positive results.
Model 4-4: Army and people have one will
Solidarity and the close relationship of “The army and the people have one will” have become a noble tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army. This is the motivation for each officer and soldier to compete to excellently complete all tasks with the spirit of serving the people, ready to fight and sacrifice for the prosperous, free and happy life of the people, always relying on the people to fight, build and grow.
The stamp has bright colors, depicting the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers helping people harvest rice, symbolizing the spirit of accompanying the people, the Army and the people sharing the same will. The Vietnam People's Army has always been a solid support for the people, not only in the fierce moments of war but also in peacetime.
The stamp set "Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th Anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024)" has a size of 43 x 32 (mm), the face value is 4,000 VND and 15,000 VND respectively, designed by artist Nguyen Du (Vietnam Post Corporation), supplied on the postal network from December 18, 2024 to June 30, 2026./.
